Worms: Reloaded

Has anyone played it during the 24 hour pre-release? I'm trying to find a review of it. I've always loved worms and I'm excited to see a high - res iteration of it coming into play.

 

I definitely have this one on the backburner and will get it when there is a big sale for it. They almost tempted me with the preorder extras but not quite since I know with Starcraft 2 I would never bother to play any other game right now. Heck still have 5 or 6 games on Steam I bought that I have never played.

While the concept remains the same for Worms my young mind does not, it just cant contain the same charm it once did when I was so young and impressionable. Back then it was a great game just naming my team after my favorite cartoon characters or video game characters and the enemy team people I didnt like, like my school teachers and punching them off a cliff.

Now days I just wont find that as fun as I used too, though a group of friends and enough beer may still provide quite a good time.

I would assume and hope that is has good online multiplayer, that would really be the biggest thing for me to want to get it since indeed I do not have company over much and if I did having us all crowd around my computer is not the greatest time.

 

It isn't out yet. Will be in around ~10 hours or so.

 

I love Worms Armageddon so much, one of the best features in that was being able to play 2 player on 1 pc, I hope this has it

Nope you're not, I too named them after cartoon characters and such, i even had one team named after the characters on the A-Team, you know: Hannibal, B.A., Face, Murdock... What a great game, I even changed the sounds for that team to have A-Team sounds.

 

ive been playin it for at about an hr now and i still find it amasing how fluid it looks and all the added special effects are great ill post a youtube vid of me playin a mission of the campaign to show you all what its like. vid i took is a little laggy since the fps dropped from 60 to 38ish fps once i hit record
im converting it now since a 11gb file would be madness to upload to youtube lol

So I gave in and got it since I got up mid day to play some Starcraft 2 and battle.net is down.

Beat the first 6 campaign missions so far and got my team setup.

Im watching One Piece right now so I created my team as the Strawhat Pirates

There so happens to be pirate hats and stuff too.

All the languages they have in the game for worm voices I was surprised and disappointed to see there is no Japanese.

Game does not support my triple monitor setup out of the box but I was able to edit the config files and force it, it works decently but still has some flaws.

i really like the game. to me it feels alot like the original just with modernized graphic. i think this game uses open gl?

my upload sucks really bad so its taking forever for youtube to get it

 

You just didnt encode it right

I can compress a 20gb FRAPS to less than 500mb and keep all visual quality

no i mean my upload is terrible so its taking forever to just have youtube get it i think my max up is something like 25kbs. had a little trouble combining those dumb 4gb parts without audio mysteriously dropping off the last 3gb chunk.

i dunno if im converting them to a compatible format but when i convert for youtube i make an mpeg4 with an h264 vid codec and aac audio. comes out to about 250mb or so

Did anyone else buy this game when they offered the Pre-purchase TF2 items with it? I did, but haven't had time to install it yet (Borderlands has been occupying all my time!), but I checked in TF2 and no items were there. I think it was supposed to be a hat and the holy hand grenade.

 

you probably have to play a game and the you will "find" those new items.

 

I love this game. Perfect rendition of the original. Such nostalgia!

We've gotta get some worms games going here in the near future. Would be a lot of low stress gaming fun. SC2 and BC2 give me stress headaches and a stiff neck. We need more games like Worms!

 

Game does not seem to save anything to the "cloud" like I thought it was supposed too.

I started on my desktop and when i was at work had to do everything again, team setup, tutorials, single player mode progress.

This means nothing is server side....

I think I will make videos as I go in campaign mode.

I only want this game for the TF2 holy grail nades...not to say worms isn't fun.

 

I thought the holy grail nades really did nothing, it's just for show.

 

Dammmnit! I get no sound in the game for some reason.

 

For those experiencing the same problem (no sound) - you need to update your DirectX.
The game rocks!

 

I have not checked out how the friends system works yet.

If enough of us have this game I could create another friends list form like I did with BFBC2 and SC2.

The reason I think SC2 worked so well was that it was just a single server and you find your friends and make a game. BFBC2 was a multi server environment and you had to find the same server as your friends and it just makes things generally harder to do.

I really sucked at SC2 today, basically would win one than lose one back and force hoovering around rank #2 and #3 in my division and I was trying to get back up to rank #1 every time I was a single win away I would lose and it was mostly things I could have prevented but I was just sluggish and unresponsive.

I had tons of minerals piling up, bad unit production, just totally off my game, so ended up playing some worms for a while

You guys prefer keyboard or controller? I tried both and have not used the controller enough yet to get used too it but it felt a bit more natural for me.

I like the game but still its not original worms it was the best!

BTW I feel suckered with the pre-order bonus's that is kinda what made me get it and they suck :/

Still, Internet is better than nothing as all my friends are pretty far away...

I play Worms with a mouse mostly, but still need a keyboard for setting the time delay for mines/grenades/etc.

 

Yeah I do not have the luxury of friends and beer. Internet will have to do.

I guess the game has voice chat if not I know we can get a teamspeak/vent server for it so we can still spurt our drunken slang at each other as we blow up pixel rendered worms for great justice.

I am working on those campaign videos still but I have had to redo them 3 or 4 times over... For some reason the audio is not in sync with the video. I have not narrowed down why it is happening. Either the overclock on the cpu, changing the frame rate of fraps, or both. Thing is I cant fix it until I restart the computer it seems.

 

I remember having a group of friends huddled around the PC screaming at each other when the dynamite BBQPWNED everyone into the great abyss...

I'll definitely play with you guys.

 

Wasn't even half as good as me or people expected.

- Campaign mode can be completed in an hour.
- Games are generally really short (4v4)
- Small selection of customization stuff
- The "shop" is pointless at the moment
- Barely any people play online
- Uses the "new age" worm visuals (first appeared in PSP Worms games)
- New physic effects aren't exactly good
- Is practically half of the game WWP was ..
- Very very few achievements and all are easy to obtain
- Looks like a flash game


All that being said it's still fun to play for a few hours. Not worth 15€ though.

 

You can criticise the single player portion or "extras" of any primarily multiplayer game. Left 4 Dead single player sucks. Battlefield 2 single player sucks, etc. The fun is between friends, and playing this type of game against unknown people online is pointless IMHO. It's more a game to be played with people you know.

I'm just happy to see a decent remake, and was happy to see a campaign, that makes it fun. Maybe they will release extra campaigns and extra weapons later on.

 

Every time I open the game I get the TEAM7 logo then it crashes. Any ideas?

Modern gaming is taking the fun away from playing between friends.

 

I got it working. Game is incredible. Who cares about campaign? All that matters is multiplayer. PM me if you guys want to play with a time and we can try and figure it out.

The game is fun. Campaign is a nice touch, and fun. The map builder is kinda simplistic but good to have nevertheless.

Regarding what ViciousXUSMC said about the cloud. I agree, it would be very nice for it to save all your config and campaign progress in the cloud. Kind of annoying that it doesn't. Wonder if they'll add that. I don't know why they couldn't or didn't. Not like it takes up that much space.

Oh well, will have to deal with it for now.

So trying to find you in worms. Looking to see if your on the TS server wingnut but my client update is not working right now.

 

Should be on in a little bit. Try to do a direct client download from the website and install that way. I've had trouble with the auto updates too.

If not maybe we can just try it without it.

how does this game's multiplayer work? through steam? or do they have their own setup.

 

Their own setup. Vicious and I just got through quite a few games. Great low stress game, just for fun. Hopefully we can get a few more people to play. It has its quirks for sure, but still fun nevertheless.

 

It has a host setup you can host a game or join a hosted game. To play with friends you invite them from your steam friends list.

So join the NBR Steam Gamers Group and you will have a lot of NBR people on your list, we just need more NBR people to get the game.


GG's Wingnut had a really good time. The game definitely has room for improvement but considering the amount of (stress free) entertainment we can get from it, it was worth the $20

 

Its a new game and I'm sure there will be patches. Its WORMS!!

Gamespot review gave the game an 8.0, generally a positive impression and lots of nostalgia for the series running 15 years to date.

 

Biggest issue is that the net code needs serious updating. For the simplistic nature of it, there were constant "waiting on other player" between turns, before crate drops, and a good couple second delay between when the offense makes their attack and when the opposing team sees it.

There was even one instance where Vicious saw one thing completely different than what happened on my end. But during the turn switch, it updated his end to what happened on mine.

There's still the floating pixels that are even harder to see in 3D on higher resolutions that will blow up your weapon in mid air.

In an enclosed map (no air attacks like air strike, etc), crates would get stuck up where you couldn't reach them.

But its all good, there were quirks in the original and it was still a blast.

 

Figured out how to edit weapons, you have to edit the game style in the customize menu at the main menu before you start a game, so you cant edit things on the fly. Kinda dumb.

Played around a bit with all the other weapons just to see what they were like by creating a "weapon testing" game style where all weapons were unlocked.

Absolutely no games to play, found 2 games. I joined one and the guy rage quit after the 2nd attack?
