Is it worth to wait for notebooks that have 8980m or 775m over an 7970m or 675mx?
I need a gaming notebook soon and noticed there's a new generation of gpu coming out soon from both Nvdia and Ati.
Reckon that 780m would be too expensive compared to what its worth anyway as whas the case with 680m compared to 7970m or even the 775mx.

Picking up a used 7970m may be the best bang for your buck. I've overclocked my 7970m (whilst also undervolting) to have similar performance to a 8790m which is essentially the same card except for double memory (4GB DDR5) and a +50Mhz boost feature from a new BIOS. Buying a new 7970m probably won't be any cheaper than getting a 8970m. GTX 775m and 780m will probably have ludicrous pricing when they are released.

Get the laptop you want with the cheapest graphics card available then buy a used 7970m from the NBR marketplace. There are at least 3 for sale right now!

Do remember that the MX series was a mid-year refresh to offer more competitive mobile GPUs, similar to the Ti series in desktop cards. We won't be seeing those on the 700 series any time soon.

I'd personally try to find a cheap laptop with a 7970m, as many manufacturers are unloading them, and you gain little vs 8970.

Ok thanks guys, so i will go for a notebook that has 7970m or an 675mx, as what im understanding is that its not worth the wait for the upcoming next gen gpu´s.

I can't confirm my sources so we'll call this a prediction.....

Last time I checked (Yesterday afternoon), the 8970m P150SM was the same prices as a GTX 780m version so if you did wait, you'd have a nasty price related surprise, I hope AMD are just holding this price until the 780m is released.

The GTX 770m will be cheaper than the 7970m and teh 675mx and despite specs it out performs the 675mx and is cheaper than the both the 675mx and 7970m.

I would expect the 7970m to outperform the 770m in many areas, especially CAD work where it will be some 2 or 3 times faster but the 770m will equally pull away in certain games, but should also produce much more predictable results with new releases over the 7970m

the 8970m is supposedly massivle faster than the 7970m, but the specs I've seen suggest its pretty much the same card!, so I struggle to see how this is possible, it may as Hybrys said be very similar (and if your really, really lucky, the 7970m might even flash to an 8970m)

That would make the card a very good price quality card then. But the 7970m price drop once those new ones arrive but ive heard the drivers and support were very bad compared to Nvidia's cards, not sure how that is now.

I thought the 770M was 192bit vs the 256 bit of the 675MX. I doubt it will outperform either 675MX or 7970M if this is the case.

It does outperform GTX675m by a roughly 10% but 7970 is a different story and it lags behind it.
