It looks like NVIDIA and display manufacturers are really pushing Stereo 3D onto the market. NVIDIA has major plans for Stereo 3D which include releasing drivers that will make almost every game compatible with it. They also plan to release 3D glasses that are a major step-up from anything that's been on the market (forget those red/blue glasses) that will transform any display into a 3D display, though the new ones that don't require glasses to create the effect sound a lot cooler. I'll have to wait read reviews and see them for myself before I pick anything up. But from press releases from manufacturers like Viewsonic and Philips, this is supposed to bring a huge amount of depth to your games and movies, and actually make things look like they leap out of the screen, which seems incredibly cool. If it looks really clear, sharp, and exactly how they market it, I'll definitely pick up a 3D display, though a lot of them have been all hype. I think this is the real market push for 3D and that we'll see some amazing stuff very soon.

As long as they don't give you mountain-splitting headaches after a short period time, why not?

Wow, I just played Bioshock in 3D with crappy red/blue anaglyph 3D glasses and it was a lot better than I expected. It was far from perfect, but it did impress me. Some stuff really jumped out of the screen and depth was great. If you have any red/blue glasses sitting around, it's definitely something you experience at least once. It can cause a headace quicky, there's a lot of ghosting and incompatibility with settings, plus a huge clarity loss using red/blue glasses, but it's worth five minutes to try.

I tried to take a video of the 3D effect in Bioshock with FRAPS, but in the video FRAPS removed the 3D effect. It's really something you have to try for yourself, even if it is only with the old crappy red/blue glasses, it's worth it. The amount of depth you get in some scenes is really amazing, though some still a little flat. I really want to see how the next-gen 3D glasses work, I would never play through a game for more than twenty minutes with red/blue anaglyph glasses because of the incompatibility with settings and problems in-game, it causes a headache quickly, and you lose a lot of clarity in the picture by wearing them. Like I said, if you have a pair of old red/blue anglyph glasses, you owe it to yourself to try playing a game with them at least once.

So do i need to update my hardware? got 8800GT already.
and how about monitors? works with existing monitors? -

If you want to try it out with red/blue anaglyph glasses it'll work fine with regular monitors (though the effect will be much better with NVIDIA's next-gen 3D glasses or one of the new 3D monitors). I was blown away at how good the 3D effect looks in games with red/blue glasses since I didn't know they were so capable. If it weren't for the problems and limitations with red/blue glasses I would play every game with them, but for now they're just a gimmick. I really can't wait for NVIDIA's 3D glasses.
Just download the 3D drivers here, play with the settings a little, and enjoy!:

I'd recommend trying out the first level of Bioshock in 3D, it's an incredible experience. -
We just interviewed NVIDIA's Andrew Fear about what to expect from the tech going forward:
