a Macbook Pro computer with bootcamp with 1 gig of ram or a Dell e1505 with a x1400 and 2 gigs of ram.

Depends on what you're looking for. The Mac would be able to push the graphics up much higher than the dell. But as long as you keep the graphic settings modest on the Dell, newer games will play more smoothly than the Mac.

Isn't the macbook pro far more expensive than the dell. you can get much more powerfull PC's for the same price as the macbook pro if you wanted to game.

I'd consider looking at things like the HGL-80 if I were you. It's got a 15.4" screen like you want, but will ship with a GeForce 7600 or ATI X1600 if you want, and it'll be cheaper than the Dell as well, for better performance. I'm aware of Powernotebooks.com, not sure about any other vendors of the Compal though. But there are a ton of other options that will serve you better than the Dell or Mac (if you aren't enamored with OSX)

The Macbook without doubt, in modern games the GPU is the bottleneck and the X1600 is much more powerful than a X1400. There's only a select few games that currently benefit from 2GB RAM but that is increasing so just upgrade that later down the road.

    It's the Compal HEL80, not HGL-80. You're thinking of the 14.1" Compal HGL30 :p

HEL80 only comes with the Nvidia GeForce 7600 w/265 dedicated not the ATI

Asus S96J/Z96J has the ATI x1600

Both the HEL80 and S96J/Z96J would offer better gaming at a better price than both the Dell and the Macbook

The Dell because it is cheaper. It also does not have to use bootcamp which uses up system resources. The 2GB of RAM will also help to give a good Boost of performance.

Boot camp is merely a tool to prepare your hard drive for a Windows install, it does not sap resources. An Intel Mac will run Windows completely natively once setup and will offer the exact same performance as a Windows laptop with the same specs.

If you've heard of Alienware, you've heard of Compal. The latter makes notebooks for the name brand companies. If you buy the Compal HEL80, get it from Powernotebooks.com - their service and support is beyond reproach. Tech support is toll-free, available 24/7, and on that model you get a 3-year warranty with next business day service.

    Give this a read.

INEEDMONEY: Yeah, you knew what I was getting at :p Either way, I'd still suggest not doing Dell. Heard of almost nothing but problems with them.

As for what's wrong with the Apple, nothing shivy. It's a decent computer, though they have also had lots of manufacturing problems lately. Their x1600 is underclocked, and their mouse only has a single button. Their firmware is locked down so it's hard to get Linux running on it. They also charge a premium, and if you don't like/need OSX, or are going to run Windows exclusively, there's absolutely NO reason to get an Apple for yourself. Get a Compal or something (3 year warranties at www.powernotebooks.com...) that more exactly fits your specifications, and will in all likelihood perform better and be at a price parity, if not cheaper.

Never mind,I found it and the price is equivalent to apple with my student discount.

More properly compared would be an S96J/Z96J to the MBP.

They both have the same GPU (X1600 256mb) but the S96J/Z96J can be had for $1,299 with a very good config, while the MBP costs $1,799+ and will have the same specs as the S96J/Z96J, plus the extra $90 for a copy of Windows and still games wont run as good on the mac as they would on the PC.

If you like throwing away money for looks, and name, go ahead get the MBP.
