Is the upgrade worth $40? How much performance gain is there?
3Dmark05 scores are fairly inaccurate to depict the two cards against each other, because scores compare NOTEBOOKS.
Just wondering if anybody found the clock speeds, pixel pipelines, etc... I can't find anything.
Thanks.

As far as specs go, I would check ATI's site (maybe you have already). tHeir site isn't nearly as well organized as nVidia's IMO. I would say for $40, spring the x1400. Isn't the x1300 just 128MB? I know the x1400 is 256. I would go for the x1400.

Thanks. I'll steal your sig now.

What are you going to do with the notebook? Hard to say whether it is worth it or not to spend more money.
-
WoW, cs 1.6, warcraft 3, starcraft.

If it's just $40 more, I'd go for the X1400, especially if it comes with 256MB of dedicated RAM. If it only comes with 128MB of dedicated RAM, it's still not too bad an upgrade for that price.

I would go for the X1400 in that case. It will also pay off if you plan to play any newer games.
-
Keep in mind it will also make the upgrade to Vista a lot easier and will be a lot easier for your computer to handle the Aero Glass interface if you care about that.

This is the nicest forum I've been to

x1300 is 64 MB dedicated, x1400 is 128 MB.
128 and 256 hypermemory - respectivly. -
if you game AT ALL, go for the x1400. You'll get better fps and be able to increase the detail.
-
I had the same decision to make and im going to college next year. I went with the x1400, it is a much better choice seeing as how i can play games like oblivion, fear, and battlefield 2 without much complaint. A 40 dollar investment for "insurance" is a good deal to me.

ati's site is horribly confusing. i would go with the x1400 its based on a higher end desktop card while the x1300 is based on the x300 which is a little bit lower on the desktop scale. and for the 40$ upgrading to a better card with more memory is always the way to go.

I just ordered the notebook with an x1400... hopefully $40 well spent. We'll see in my review.
Thanks for the feedback.
As a final note, every single ATI card from their website basically says "ultimate, powerful, single, final graphics card solution that boosts your graphics performance to a breathtaking/dazzling/ (insert corporate adjective here) level... -
You made the right choice, the X1400 is a fairly weak card but its without doubt steps ahead of the X1300....
-
Steps ahead at the cost of significantly reduced battery life and much higher heat.
If portability and battery life are the key with some pretty decent gaming abilities - take the X1300. It battery life doesn't matter - go with the X1400. Both have their place in the marketThe X1300 isn't that awful - slap in some ram and you'll be set. Half Life 2 plays on my thinkpad without a hitch at a great frame rate. Incredibly new games you may have some trouble in...
Just keep in mind what you really want the laptop for and go from there. For me - battery life was much more important. Business first - games second.
X1300 or X1400 for $40 more dollars?
