    Dell Inspiron 9400, just bought.
I have an Intel Core Duo Processor and 2 Gigs of RAM.
ATI Radeon x1400. (This is my laptop).
    17 inch WXGA+
I am running Windows Vista, most importantly.

I suspected something was wrong when whatever game I tried, the maximum resolution allowed in options was 1024x768. I also got horribly choppy performance on Battlefield Vietnam on even low settings. I suspect there is something wrong with my graphics driver. I tried updating through windows and it supposedly found something but there are no changes.

    a) Is my problem really graphics drivers?
    b) Where can I get Vista graphics drivers for x1400 that are stable (relatively)?
    c) Whats with the max resolution being 1024x768?

    Another really weird thing.
In Battlefield Vietnam, I suspected I was getting a horrible FPS.
And it was really choppy, but the framerate still appeared high.
In Battlefield 1942, the framerate was just as high. but it didnt have this weird choppy lag. But who knows, maybe in BFV maybe the framerate dropped low and went up so fast that I didnt notice.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated!

What driver did you update to? Use the GPU Driver Update guide and get the Catalyst Mobility 7.2 drivers for Vista.

I am thinking that your video card is set in a lower power mode. Once you have installed the new drivers, right-click on your desktop and click "Catalyst Control Center." Once in the CCC, in the left hand side click "PowerPlay." Make sure that the settings when you are plugged in are set for "Maximum Performance." Also, go into the Control Center and click "Mobile PC"; then click "Power Options" and make sure you are set to "High Performance." You can change this later on by clicking on the power icon in the system tray.
