I am looking a IBM T60 and it has a Ati X1400.
according to this list
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39568
ATI Radeon 9700
ATI Radeon X600
Nvidia GeForce Go7400
ATI Radeon X1400
Nvidia Go6600
ATI Radeon 9800
ATI Radeon X700
It shows the x1400 inbetween the 9700 and the 9800, is this correct as I am currently on a Ati radeon 9600Xt desktop system and this would not even be a worth while upgrade, as i really would not see any advantaged. I though the x1400 would be more powerfull than the desktop version of the X800XT.
is this true or am I reading this wrong.
thanks.

um........why would the x1400 be more powerful than the X800XT????
maybe your confusing the numbering system???
you can look at my guide (in my siggy)
Quote from my guide:
-
ok good stuff.
is there any mobile gpu that would be an upgrade for me, -
upgrade from ATI 9600XT????
well i dont know what the mobile comparison of that is but......i would think a
Nvidia = Go6600>>>>Go6800>>>>Go7600>>>Go7800>>>Go7900GS
ATI = X700>>>X800>>>X1600>>>X1800>>>>w\etc -
The x1400 is not equal to the 9800. The x1400 may have newer tech, but the 9800 still has more pixel pipelines and a 256bit bus, which will give it the edge.
You cant upgrade your current notebooks GPU, you'll need to buy a new notebook. From a 9600 though just about anything recent you can buy with dedicated graphics will be an upgrade though. -

The X1400 isn't even close to the Radeon 9800 in terms of power.
Going from a desktop 9600XT to an X1400 will not give a substantial boost. -
Dahm that really sucks.
-
um
I am fairly sure the x1400 is a 9700, so it would be faster than your 9600 xt -

The X1400 is actually completely different than the Radeon 9700, that's a common misconception. The Radeon X1000 series are based on a new architecture versus the Radeon X series, and include Shader Model 3.0 along with an improved memory bus.
-
Exactly what ChazMan said; the x1400 is a new generation. The x600 was actually a MR9700 with a PCI-Express bus.
Also note that the desktop 9700 is a completely different part (8 pipes, 256-bit memory bus) than the notebook 9700 (4 pipes, 128-bit bus) due to ATI's strange naming scheme. Performance-wise, the desktop 9700 is equivalent to the x700, or Nvidia 6600. -
I agree with flanken and Chazman............
Desktop and Notebook cards are different in terms of performance.....usually desktop cards are faster.
take a look at the desktop 6600 and the notebook 6600:
Desktop: Core: 300MHz@ 2400Mp/s Mem: 700MHz @ 11.2GB/sec
Notebook: Core: 300Mhz/375MHz/etc. Mem: 600/700MHz @ 9.6GB/s / 11.2GB/sec
get the idea?

But not a worth upgrade, if you can understand that. going from 30 fps on Minimum settings to 35 fps on minimum settings, isint worth it to me,
X1400 about equal to Radeon 9800
