    hello everyone,
    i'm considering a dell 1505 with the 256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™. will this card handle games like doom3 or f..e.a.r.?

From reviews I have read it will play Doom 3 at medium settings respectably... its not in the same league as the x1600 or nVidia 7800 though.

There isnt much out there on the x1400 yet... I looked high and low for info before ordering my e1505 a week or so ago (its about to ship <g>) The conclusion I came to is that its not the worst, and not the best... but if you want dual core and dedicated video under 2k then its about your best/only option.

As to how the x1400 performs in the e1505 specifically... noone knows yet... its only been offered for a week so noone has gotten one to test yet. In reviews ive seen of machines with the x1400 in them it seems to score around 2000 on 3dmark 05, if that helps.

Your best bet is to find reviews of other notebooks with the card. There are a couple of them on this site if i remember correctly.

The memory spec on the card is a bit wierd to... and will vary from machine to machine. In general the card will have 1/2 the listed memory... for example the dell x1400 256mb hypermemory actually has 128mb of dedicated ram, and will use up to another 128mb from system memory if needed (which it usually wont be).

Memory varies from machine to machine... the Acer 4672 has 128mb and can use up to 384mb of system ram (whichi it would never do)... and a couple machines have 64mb dedicated and can use an additional 64mb of system ram if needed.

The end result is that performance will vary alot from machine to machine as the memory will differ. Ive read that the Acer has about 80% of the performance of most other implementation but havent found a reason why.

Good luck. I figure ill post 3dmark scores once I get mine... but my then dells big coupon deals will probably be gone.

and from what i've read on the forums, installing the most recent drivers make a difference.

Usually the case, but I can imagine it would be more crucial with the x1400 as its only been out a few months.

Well, this is what we have the guides for up top, I made a short description about what the cards can handle in the Moble Video Card Comparison Chart. Might want to read that. ;)

If you meet the requirements, you can play.
