Hi, I am planing to change my current laptop and came between two options:
    ASUS S96J (Core Duo T2400, X1600 256MB, $1,250) and
    Acer Aspire 5672WMLi (Core Duo T2300, X1600 128MB, $1,069)
My current games are NFS MW, CStrike, Far Cry, UT....would be really a big difference between the two? I mean would the extra 128MB dedicated make the almost $200 worth it?
The rest of the components/features are equal...I just don't want to regret buying the Acer in 6 months because a new game plays crappy.

    Thanks!!

There shouldnt be *that* much of a difference in gaming performance, but it is worth the extra $200 for the Asus, I have heard of many problems with the Acer, and Asus is top quality.

The 128MB X1600 doesn't seem to have that great of performance or so I have read in the Acer forum. For gaming purposes, it's best to have the 256MB card. The latest games will see a good performance advantage with 256MB of video memory. The 256MB X1600 also has faster GDDR3 memory vs. the 128MB's DDR.

And the Asus is a better-made notebook too.

Thanks for the info...good point on the 128MB memory being slower...didn't expect that, that should make quite a difference.
And of course Asus is better quality...you're all right about that.
Let's save a couple of hundreds and go Asus then... :D

I've got the acer 128 x1600, and it also a ddr3. If given another chance, I would not go for this lappie. kinda being conned by the reseller when buying. go for the asus. if ur into gaming and probably want the laptop to last a few yrs playing gd 3d games with gd FPS. no regrets.

Ah - ATI Tray Tools isn't accurate at all when it comes to reading what type of video memory you have. It will say GDDR3 for pretty much anything. My notebook has 256MB GDDR2, but it reports it as GDDR3.
