Im now debating between two acer notebooks, they have basically the same specs but one has a x1400 and an x1600. I was wondering if theres a big difference between the two besides price. Will the x1400 be able to play wow, bf2, cod2, and upcoming games like bf2142? Or do i needa go with the X1600.

    Thanks a bunch

For bf2, cod2, the x1400 would be fine at medium settings if you have 2 gigs of ram. As for bf2142, i read that it is based off the same engine as bf2, so you would be able to run it too. I have read with duo 2 ghz, 2 gb ram, and x1400, that bf2 could be run on high.

If you wanted to be more future proof, or you are a hard core gamer, then go for the X1600.

I was in the same boat as you and went with the X1600. CompUSA sold the Acer w/ the X1400 for $999 but 2gb of ram. Newegg sold the Acer w/ X1600 w/ 1gb ram for $1079. I upgraded the ram to 2gb (also from newgg) for about $160 more. The upgraded ram was also faster. So I ended up spending about $250 more for the X1600 w/ 2GB faster ram. If I am able to sell my old ram then I will have spent about $100-150 more depending on how much I get for the ram or if I can even sell it.

The X1600 128MB is about 30-40% faster than the X1400 in benchmarks, but the real-world difference is higher. It has much more processing power and thus will be considerably better for newer games.

get the x1600 version. I have had mine for 2 months now and love it to death....other then the size being 15.4 (I was an ultraportable man until this one). But Im getting used to it. With 1.6 core duo x1400 and 2gb of ram I could see high settings on bf2 as it isnt as GPU based as most, gameplay is more based on ram then anything. But yeah get the x1600, I havent found a game I havent been able to crank to max settings.
