It depends what you mean by decent and what you mean by run.

According to bechmarks the X2300 is in between an geforce go 7300 and 7400 for power. That means it'll run older games like BF1942, City of Heroes, Call of Duty or things like Guild Wars or WoW nearly maxed or maxed at native with good fps.

More demanding games like the Sims 2, BF2, NFS Underground 2 it should run at low-medium settings at native res (assuming a WXGA screen).

If you're wanting to run more advanced and newer games such as F.E.A.R., Oblivion, Bioshock or Crysis then it'll run them at low settings, maybe on native and be ok, probably 1024*768 on low etc. and just get playable FPS. Games like this might be just about playable but really require something more powerful.

It's ok for mild gaming but if you want to get into the serious stuff you'll need something more powerful. This will be fine for basic windows based tasks and DVDs etc. Personally in general I like ATi cards, more through familiarity with drivers and utilities than brand allegience. If ATi's drivers don't work so well Omega drivers are always a possibility.

If you play like warcraft 3, Aoe2, and starcraft online at the same time than i guess yes, but if you are thinking Crysis GRAW or any other 3d intesive game than forget it.

4 gigs of ram and a t7700 is OTT really especially if you want to game. Far better spending the money on a laptop that has a better graphics card, which is pretty much any dedicated card against the x2300. Ofcourse if gaming isn't a major concern and applications/photoshop are then it's a different scenerio. Still that extra 2 gigs is just too expansive for such a small improvement for me.

Yes it will! Newer games seem to require a large ammount of memory, since they havea lot of textures to render, and a lot of them are processor bound.
However, the 2300 is not a good combination with a T7700 and 4gb of ram,I mean, super fast processor, super nice memory and super sucky GPU ... see my point ?

I'd try to go for a more rounded machine. An 8600M GT or HD2600 with a T7300 and 2GB ram should be a formidable gaming machine.

More RAM will help, but the faster processor will not. But you'll still be GPU-bound.

The RAM will only help you avoid having to swap data with the hard drive. That means that your games won't stutter as much around if you move quickly or a new area needs to be loaded, and it also means that stuttering won't be as bad if there is a lot going on the screen. But it will probably not really impact your overall FPS unless you have like 512MB-1GB RAM right now, and even then the difference would not be night and day.
