Hello.
Recently i bought an Inpiron 1420 to replace my old desktop PC. Overrall the notebook is alot better, better processor, more ram... but i was wondering about the graphic card. On my old desktop i had a radeon 8500le and the 1420 comes with an integrated x3100 card.
Even though im not really interested in playing games, ill like to be able to play FFXI from time to time (as i do now) and i was wondering how those two cards compare to each other.
If possible, ill like to play withouth a decrease in performance.
PS: Sorry about my bad english, im still learning.

considering thats not even a 9 series radeon i would think the X3100 is better and you could bump the settings a bit.
-
The x3100 is far superior

Current vertex and pixel shader technology alone would make the x3100 better.
And common, you're comparing a current gen card to a weak LE card from 3 generations ago. -
If the X3100 is more powerful than the Radeon X200 (also an IGP), then it's much more powerful than the 8500LE for sure.
-
Xpress 200
300MHz core clock
2 pixel pipeline, 1 texture unit per pipeline
Partial hardware T&L, meaning while it has good compatibility, it can't be said to have a full hardware T&L support
memory bandwidth of 6.4GB/s with Dual DDR 400
DirectX 9.0, SM2.0
8500LE
250MHz core clock
4 pixel pipeline, 2 texture units per pipeline
2 Vertex Shader
memory bandwidth of 8GB/s(128-bit 500MHz)
DirectX 8.1
So if the Xpress 200 was faster, its because it was supporting the DX9 features of the game, imo.
As with X3100, it seems its pretty dependent on the user. Lots of the users are pretty dissatisfied with it. -
X1300 should definitely be better.
check www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html
although you don't find 8500LE there, you could get an general idea about what other GPUs are around X1300 and then do a comparison.
also usually "LE" stands for GPUs with less processing power. it is safe to think that X1300 much better. -
Thanks everyone. ^_^

SOOOOOOO much inexperience and misinformation this this thread.
The 8500le will SMOKE the x3100 graphics. Am I the only one here who actually USED both the 8500le and x3100? Looks like it!
It is laughable how people post how the x3100 is better due to higher level shaders when its only capable of running DX8 with playable framerates.
I owned an 8500le back in the day and guess what? My laptop with the x3100 can NOT play games smoothly like the 8500le did. The 8500le is WAAAAY faster.
Also the Radeon x200 is a PATHETIC IGP. The 8500le smokes it like its nothing. Who are you guys trying to kid?
This is just another thread of people posting guesses without prior experience with both hardware devices what so ever. Its a BIG problem in this forum. -
Metamorphical Good computer user
Hey lets play nice...

Without proof, your own attacks are, in effect, an attack to yourself. Without proof, you are merely guessing, as you say, like the rest in this forum.
Of course, you can always remove that know-it-all attitude from your posts instead. No need to rub on everyone's faces that you're the experienced and right one and they're all dead wrong. Or maybe that's your objective here in the forum? Dude, these forums are not about putting yourself and your knowledge above others; it's about helping others who are, unfortunately, less knowledgeable than you, your highness.
Sorry, I just had to blurt that out.
As far as I know, it's difficult to compare a new IGP and a very old dedicated graphics card that wasn't exactly high-end in its day. -
And just to show you an example Onion, I have owned both a current IGP (xpress 1150) and an old dedicated card (radeon 9000 32mb).
OCed, the radeon 9000 scored 700 points in 3DMark03 and barely ran HL2 at the lowest settings.
My current xpress 1150 scores 1603 in 3DMark03 and runs HL2 at medium settings liks a champ.
So if this new IGP is twice as powerful as a radeon mobility 9000, how can you say that a weaker 8500LE "smokes" an equivalent IGP in the x3100?
Explain that one. And please this time with actual proof of benchmarks, not just your godly knowledge. -

1. What you dont understand is that your old 9000 32mb had crippled 64bit memory. Only the 64mb versions of the mobilty 9000 had full 128bit memory.
2. You cant compare 3dmark scores with GPU of different shader models as even a slower GPU will score high simply because of support for newer shader models NOT becuase it can render scenes faster.
3. The 8500LE is FAAAAAAR superior to your 32mb 9000. Your mobility 9000 is crippled with 64bit memory, castrated with 1/2 the texture units of the 8500le, slower clock, slower memory.....the list goes on and on and on....dont you know the radeon 9000 and 9200 chips are severly crippled 8500s?? You didnt know this???
4. A TRUE radeon 9000 with 128bit memory will outrun you x1150 IGP. I owned an Dell 600m with the mobility 9000 64mb 128bit memory and performance increased nearly DOUBLE with the 128bit memory especially in demanding games like HL2.
5. Your unit with the x1150 also has a faster CPU than an old unit with the 9000 32mb add this all up and an equivlent CPUs the 8500le SMOKES the x3100.
6. Owned.

One last note, Your 32mb 9000 ran HL2 so poorly because 32mb is not enough for med setting and that produced massive amounts of AGP swapping hence low FPS. -
And no, the x1150 is not paired with a better cpu. It has a Turion X2 Tl-50 vs a 2.0GHz Pentium M 755. And given your teachings about Turions, this cpu is much weaker than even a PM.
