    Hi.

I consider buying a Dell Vostro 1310 for my studies. Despite I will mainly work on the Notebook, I'm curious whether old games like RCT1-3, Civ3, Morrowind, AoE2 or Gothic will run on it. Since the M8400GS is affected by those manufacturing issues, I don't know whether I rather should order a Vostro with a X3100. Is the X3100 able to run above games at a reasonable speed and quality? I know its not a gaming chip, but I don't want to run everything in ultra-quality with full AA/AF etc. Any suggestions?

Not sure if you could get Morrowind to run at maxed settings with a X3100 but yes, what you've listed should be perfectly playable with it.

The 8400 will offer WAY better performance. Its not even close. Also, the x3100 has a lot of compatibility issues.

The x3100 will run the games mentioned, but I wouldn't use it for much else. It runs civ 3 fine, but its awful for civ 4. It will run civ 4 at about 20 fps near the start of the game, but after about 50 turns you will be around 10 fps.

Well, there are hardly good alternatives for an 13" Notebook for ~700 Euros. And for newer games, I have a good desktop system. A little power for older games would be fine.

it ran my games ok.. my PC has that switch where i can use the x3100 or the M8400GS

to be honest i wish the PC could use the x3100 alittle better.. ebcause when the PC is on battery mode, it would lose driver compatibility out of no where.. the drivers for x3100 is awful.. i updated it multible times..

i think its because i have it on a windows vista 64 bit. it was fine when i used to have 32 bit.. maybe drivers will be released someday where it would stop losing driver function while its on battery mode.
