How would a mobility X600 compare to a 9800 Pro in a desktop?
I couldn't really find a definitive answer in searching.
Thanks

the x600 will have a few newer features then the 9800 pro
But overall the 9800 will be more powerful, but if u play it on the 9800 pro, it will work on the x600 but may have to lower res, or other features but it should still run good!
unfortunately im using a gma900 which you should never ever touch!, Ive been playing GTA vice city, again lol and it runs it good But i had to buy cs 1.6 because source was unplayable but the x600 should work for you. I mean laptops shouldnt be to much for gaming? or else theyll light on fire and weigh a ton -
A plain x600 is about the same as a 9600pro for comparison sake because that's basically what it is, a repackaged 9600 chip for PCIe (and later AGP again). And for more comparison the x700 on the other hand was an actual new (sorta) chip designed, but the pro version is still only about as powerfull as a 9800pro.

9800 Pro will kill the X600. The X600 is based on the Radeon 9600 as posted by bombledmonk, and the 9800 is far more powerful.

the 9800 is a very solid performer..able to handle most games out right now (at decent settings)
pb,out. -
how about 9800 pro compared to the x1400 and 7400 ? all are weaker than then x700...right ?

I had a Radeon 9800 Pro in my old desktop before switching to this Mobility Radeon X600. Same amount of video RAM. My 9800 Pro was running Doom 3 at 1024x768 High; I dropped a full resolution on the X600. Keep in mind this is before ATI drivers optimized for Doom 3. Also keep in mind that my 9800 Pro was running with an Athlon XP 2500+ and the X600 is running with an Athlon 64 3700+.
The X1400 and Go 7400 are both slower than the X700, which in turn approaches the 9800 Pro in performance (at least, is my understanding). 9800 Pro is still faster, though. -

When it comes to older games such as Far Cry, the 9800XT is extremely strong. My X700 is not faster than it in that game. The 256-bit memory bus on the 9800 series (non-SE) really helps when there's a lot of stuff on scene.
The X700 in the laptop can catch up to my desktop 9800XT when overclocked, but only then.

I have the same card as Chaz in my desktop (9800xt 256mb). My next laptop will have a x1600 256mb card. I won't be surprised if it performs equally well, if not somewhat better than my 9800xt.

The X1600 will be considerably faster than the 9800. Considering that the X700 256MB OC'ed is about as fast as a 9800XT, the X1600 is 30-35% faster than that. Impressive indeed.

What speeds do you have your x700 OC'ed to, Chaz?

The 9800XT runs at 412:365 - I have the X700 OC'ed to 400:392.

I just picked up an x1600 AGP (512MB) for a desktop I have to replace a 9700Pro. Is the mobile X1600 (256MB, 512 w/ Hypermem) basically equivalent to it?
I'm interested in game performance, but also the AVIVO features, and any boost they'll provide to transcoding video.
Thanks. -

Heh I got my 9800pro up to 500/425 (no artifacts and stable) which was funny (core volt mod + ATI silencer air cooling) before I did that it reached 450/425 just with the upgraded cooling. My x700pro reached 480/505 and beat it quite thoughrily.

Yeah, I don't venture too far past 400Mhz on the memory of my X700, because it is GDDR2. Meaker can get his desktop X700PRO to 500MHz+ because it's GDDR3, which can achieve signifigantly higher overclocking speeds than GDDR2 and lower. The 9800XT uses GDDR2.
I'll have to try overclocking my 9800XT sometime . . .
I use ATI Tray Tools to overclock.

Ok, so the 9600 pro vs the X1400?
I have the 9600 in my desktop and will soon have the X1400 in my lappy. What, if any kind of performance gain should I expect? -

Well, the 9600Pro isn't that much slower than the Mobility Radeon 9700. The Mobility X600 is basically equal to an MR9700. The X1400 shows noticable gains in speed over the X600. You'll see a nice boost in speed, especially when paired with the Core Duo.

Thanks a ton there Chaz, that's exactly what I wanted to hear
Realistically, I only want to play CS:S, WoW and maybe Oblivion. So this should do quite nicely. I was a little bit concerned buying the laptop with no real information but this makes me happy I did so. -
How does a desktop 128mb Radeon 9600 XT compare to laptop graphics cards?

The 9600XT is equivalent to a MR9700 more or less.
