    Hi all,

I was wondering if there is any difference between a regular X600 and an X600SE. The Toshiba I recently got as a warranty replacement(BB wouldnt let me get the HP I wanted  ) for my old laptop has an X600SE, so I was just wondering if there was any differance at all. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yeah, I believe the SE is 64bit vs. 128bit.

You could download a utility program such as Everest Home Edition if you can find it (they stopped offering that) and see what it says.

But as posted, when you see the "SE" designation, that usually means it has a 64-bit memory interface.

Just installed Everest Home Edition and it looks like my X600se has a 128-bit Bus Width, thats what I should be looking at right?

That's it. You know, I believe there was a post a while ago regarding the X600SE - it benched the same or higher than the 'regular' X600. I find the naming scheme very odd. Perhaps the SE designation means different in a laptop, or at least in the case of the X600 in a laptop versus a desktop.

Have you done a 3DMark05 run yet? Be sure to update your video drivers - I recommend using the Omega ones. We could probably tell from your score whether Everest is right or not.

Be sure to uninstall your old ones first.

I havent had a chance to run 3dMark05 yet, but I'll do that now. Already have the omega drivers installed, but forgot to uninstall the old ones first, going to uninstall both now and install the Omegas clean before I run the 3Dmark, I'll post my results after. Thanks again for the help. :)

I scored a 1654 on 3DMark05 this morning with Omega drives, if that tells you much. Does that seem normal for a regular X600?

1,654 is very good for an X600, I believe that is what other X600 "SE" owners are getting.

I'm really curious to find out what the SE designation actually means . . as I said, in desktop cards that means it has a 64-bit memory interface, but that doesn't (apparently) seem to be the case with yours. Check out your stock clocks and compare them to the regular X600 - Meaker's laptop charts are around here somewhere, they're posted in there.

My stock clocks 358:277. Think I might mess around with OCing it to see what kind of scores I can get. I'll probably stick with the stock settings though, unless I see a noticeable performance boost in the games I play.

I also just checked ATI Tray tools and under system info the card is listed as having 128bit memory width, so that makes me happy.

btw, after I've OC'd the card, how do I check for artifacts? Is there a program that will do it for me or will I just see them when Im playing a game?

ATI Tray Tools has a built-in 3D renderer, you can use that to scan/check for artifacts.

I just scored an 1842 on 3DMark05 with my clocks set at 403:302, still scanning for artifacts, still hasnt found any after 5 mins. How long should I let it scan before I can feel relativly safe?

In my sig You see my score for my Toshiba Tecra a Laptop I'm very happy to own. It also have the x600SE version and I asked the exact same q some time ago about the SE, and to me there seems to be no difference except for the GPU and MEM clockspeed. On Toshiba the Core (GPU) speed is lower but the MEM speed is higher on our x600SE vs the X600.

I OC'ed my x600SE to to match the GPU speed of the x600 and it gave me like 2 more frames in bench so nothing to cry about ^^

isn't the x600 more or less an overclocked x300, i was looking at the specs and if i remember correctly, theyre identical with the exception of clock speed. im personally a fan of ATI Tool myself

That's correct - the X300 and the X600 are the same card, just the X600 has faster core/mem speeds.

Just thought I'd post my final 3DMark05 scores after playing around with OCing and my best was a 1928 at 408:332, not bad for an X600. I'm still usually using stock settings most of the time though and will probably continue unless I start playing something more demanding. Thanks again for all the help and info guys.
