Hi, I own a GW MX7515 and when for a long time since buying it (ATI Powerplay enabled), clocks went from stock (400/260) to power saving down to 122/122.
A few weeks ago I saw that clocks in power saving now are 148/148![]()
What component is in charge of that change? Is it a BIOS feature? Or just the drivers (currently Omega's based in Catalyst 6.5)
I sent my laptop for repairs a few months ago and I guess they updated the BIOS, but don't know if that is the reason for the clock change.
Can I reset that to something lower? back to 122/122?
Thanks!!

You can downclock your video card, yes. Use ATI Tray Tools. I can tell you that going down to 122:122 from 148:148 is not going to make much of a difference. Turing down the screen brightness a notch would do more, or turning off the wireless card.
It was probably the BIOS update that made the clocks change. The Omega 6.5s are not that old, updating wouldn't hurt though. I use the 6.9s and they work very well with my X700. Give those a try. -
Thanks...I tried ATI tray Tools (included in Omega) but it did not work all the times, few minutes after the downclock it went back to 148/148 automatically...maybe BIOS setting wins against other mods (was affraid it was like that).
Tried 6.9s some time ago but had a hard time trying to get the external devices (TV) to work as expected...many problems between the TV 4:3 format and the laptop's widescreen. So I went back to 6.5s.
Waiting for newer ones but it seems that our friend Angel is very busy right now.
Do you thing there is a moded BIOS we can flash? maybe going lower than 122 would help in powersaving. -

What PowerPlay does that simple underclocking doesn't is dynamically change the voltages of the video card - that matters a lot more than the clockspeed. Once you change the clocks manually - as in, taking the clocks down to 122:122 using ATI Tray Tools, PowerPlay is overridden. You're best off letting PowerPlay do its job. Slightly higher clocks + lower voltages > lower clocks. -
Well...thanks, I guess it stays as it is right now then.
Didn't know that ATT would override Powerplay's undevolting...good to know.
We should wait for a version of ATT that handles voltage also....would be a nice feature.
