I don't know if you need a Play & Charge Kit, but I'm pretty sure there are PC version of the 360 controller. I've seen them at Target, lol.

Plug it in with the play and charge kit. If it doesn't work, then it won't work, and you'll need to buy a wireless adapter.

There is no PC version of the 360 controller. It's just the normal 360 controller in red packaging labeled PC. Marketing.

Ya but I don't think he WANTS to buy it if he already has a controller....

I too have the XBOX 360 controller with the play and charge kit, and I've also wondered whether or not you can use it that way.

    Does anyone know?

    no.

you either need a wired controller or the wireless usb adapter.

i had the same problem... it sucks. just pick up the wireless adapter at wal mart or target for $15

(it's microsoft.. they want the most $ they can get)

M$ barstards, another thing I'll have to buy sooner or later, is it possible for someone to make a driver. Or is it the way its made so it doesn't send signals down the wire apart from the charging bit, that really sucks :(

The play and charge kit does not send controller inputs across the usb. It is only for charging. If you have your 360 controller (wireless) plugged into the xbox via play and charge kit, it still communicates to the xbox wirelessly. So plugging it into your computer will only charge the batteries, not let it communicate like a controller. You have 2 options. Get the wired controller, or get the wireless controller adapter for the pc.

The way I set up my wired Xbox 360 controller to work on my computer was to plug it in (wasn't detected) however I then ran Windows Update and it automatically detected it and offered me a driver download for the controller.

The normal 360 controller doesn't have a USB connector, does it?
Anyway, whether or not it's any different from the standard 360 version, I have one and it works great on my PC :)

I needed a gamepad for pc and considered the xbox 360 controller. didn't want to spend too much so ended up buying a usb adaptor instead for the original xbox controllers (which I have few of them around the house). Works great and it's even being recognized as a xbox 360 controller in game like Halo 2, bonus!
