there are a number of games on steam that I'd like to pick up that require xp/vista compatibility. Mainly the old Quake, Doom, and wolfenstein games, however my current computer is windows 7 (M11x R2).

I was wondering if these games had a chance of working on my system. thanks for any responses.

I would say that if they work on XP and especially Vista, they will work just fine on Windows 7. If not, you can always run them in compatibility mode.

And as a last resort, in the very very unlikely chance they don't work, you can always get a refund for the game.

They should work. If not, you can probably find a fix that someone came up with somewhere.

I bought Deus Ex on Steam, and at first it was really screwed up because of the dual core processor, but I found a modded executable that fixed the problem. And that was a Windows 98 game.

I ended up breaking down and buying the ID pack on steam to test it out. Wolfenstein 3d works, and I didn't even have to run it in compatibility mode, so hopefully everything else will too.

$30 for like 10 games isn't a bad deal anyways, even if some of them end up not working.

I had no problems running Quake or Quake 2 with Windows 7 x64 on Steam. You can even use mods, which enable widescreen support, high-res textures, and so forth.

Oh yeah, it's a great deal. Great games too. They'll all work fine. I don't think you need to worry about it :)

tested out a few more and all working so far. The resolution doesn't bother me since I'm playing on an 11" screen anyways. I realize how much I've missed these old games...new games are far too easy now days.

Everything has guides and hints or are just plain linear...you dont have to search for an hour looking for that hidden block to step on to open that door that's been driving you crazy...

everything that steam sells, is compatible with the win 7, even the older lucas arts games that had problems they run just fine.
