I was wondering, on a XPS m1530 8600m GT card, would the battlefiled series run at top performance better with XP or Vista? I don't care to much about any of the new games requiring directx 10. I'm a huge Battlefield fan (1942, 2, 2142 and project reality mod). I'm purchasing the XPS m1530 just for battlefield, I may get other titles.

previously xp was better for games but now the gap has decreased a lot. with the gpu u have u wont see a difference in preformance between the two os. vista is more future proof so i say get that. and i think u cant configure the m1530 with xp so if u buy a cd just dual boot

Yes we all have to get Vista someday :(

I personally would stick with XP (cheaper, and yes it does still have a bit more compatability although as sly97531 said, the gap is rapidly decreading).

Also (again this is me), I don't really like the Vista interface but I'm sure I'll get used to it over time. If you are going to get Vista though I'd wait until the first service pack comes out - it just makes general sense.

Vista is really, really slow with 1GB of RAM. The operating system immediately drains and uses close to 1GB to run so you need extra to properly and quickly run any games or high-power apps. Again, you have to pay extra for the RAM upgrade....

    Hope this helped!

XP is still better for games, period. However I am not sure that the XPS M1530 is supported on XP . . . you should probably get Vista so all of your hardware works right.
