So from what I've read, Dell won't be supporting eGPU via thunderbolt 3. How true do you think this is? If it is true will other people/3rd parties figure out how to "unlock" this feature? Otherwise this defeats the purpose of me buying the XPS over an Alienware

Alienware is owned by Dell after all, so don't be surprised if they decide to use propitiatory eGPU solutions. In fact, I'd bank of them doing exactly that.
Razor Core seems more open than the Alienware solution because it's meant to work on any system with TB3. I'm not convinced we're getting 100% of the story here though. It needs software to run, and that itself asks more questions than it answers for me. It all seems a little too ambiguous at the moment. Perhaps someone could chime in here and set the story straight?
Also the other hardware connected to the 'Core' steal big chunks of the GPU's overall bandwidth. It can be a downright disaster if you overload it. Depending on other hardware you connect, your mileage will very.Ashtrix likes this. -

The XPS15 supports use of the Razor Core as an eGPU solution, and the results are impressive (albeit expensive). The functionality isn't completely perfected yet, but it's off to a good start. More details here:
