I got XPS M1730 for $2500 by going through www.delloutlet.com, but I had to manually monitor that site's inventory for about a week before pulling the purchase trigger. There were several souped-up rigs that went by with SSD-boot drives, BluRay writers, etc., but their prices were still over the $3200+ mark, and when I hesitated to buy, these units were gone a few minutes later. When I finally did purchase my current unit, I added it to the cart, then called a Dell Outlet sales rep to finalize the purchase.

I strongly suspect cart-bot shoppers hiding most of the XPS M1730 inventory from legitimate shoppers, but I don't see Dell making a more active effort to stop these individuals.

Yea man, I noticed a huge difference in terms of quality , the game is life-like.

As for the RU, indeed, it is one power house too, I played and finished crysis on it on high, sure,at a lower res,but on high nonetheless. And I`ll always love my RU, no matter where it will end up... :(

Personally I like the sager a lor more aesthetically. The Sager is thinner, more streamlined and doesn't doesn't has tacky lights on it (my personal taste, lights in general and other gamer-y/alienware-y designs are ugly and cheesy). I heavily lean towards the macbook side of laptop design (though not of price).

Can`t argue with that. The Sager is thinner, lighter, more appealing in terms of looks.
But I`m a man who likes power first, looks later.

    Lol,no.
Pretty girls are ok,but I`d take a smart girl any day. A smart girl will always know how to show her best features and hide the minuses, and provide a good conversation whenever wherever.
I`m not a fan of dump Barbie Dolls.

The Dell is not a Barbie, sure, but it`s got all the power I need right now,and then some.
The sager is prettier, but lacks the , well, conversation skills I require :D

Bar talk, I like it :D

The Dell have it´s advantages, but for me the worst of all are the Dell´s warranties(like others such Asus/Toshiba/MSI/...). I can not stand the impossibility of opennnig my NB, like some Toshibas that I had in the past. If you do so the warranty caput :D

Something so simple like clean the vents will be like f**king gymnastic... or you can send to Dell and pay a buch of money... upgrades same thing, something like add some RAM, you will need to send to Dell and pay the price they want, HDDs the same, and so on...

Other aspect is the mobility side... even my M570RU is to big/weights to much for my likings. More weight, no way, specially with all my back problems. The other aspect is the battery, I can work on it almost 3H, if undervolted 10/15mins more... that is suficient to leave my power supply brick at home... on an XPS 1730, wich I think it uses an 9 cell bat, man with SLi that thing will be something like an UPS backup power. :D So every day the height of the XPS and the it´s huge power supply with it if you want to work on it more than 30mins, I don´t want even imagine...

    ;)

Nobody ever said my wife wasn't beautiful... but I moon-light with fat chicks.

Obviously because your a musician. lol, jk.
But yeah, the dell, with sli, maybe powerful, you're pretty much grounded to a wall. And god, the cost. adding sli is a whole grand, I think. Donno if I've got that much dough for something that has limited mobility and worse then my desktop. Whats wrong with pretty, powerful, and smart girls? Best of all the worlds! Oh yeah, they gotta like games too.

I`ll take power over looks any day. In laptops only though :D

It didn`t cost me much to add SLI, the whole system was cheaper than a new Sager, so I`m all set with that.

I actually started laughing and choked. On the bright side, the cute girl next to me asked if she could get me something. On the less bright side, I already knew her. :D

M1730s are pretty hard to find in Dell outlet. They get snapped up really quick.

make a backup for it, then just overwrite it, when you go to play crysis, open console and type:
    Con_restricted 0
    then press enter

    then type:
    Map island
then enter, after that, you feel like in heaven

and dont forget, when the level begins, look at your left, a crate with some nice weapons and an Explosive charge!

I suspect that many people (especially e-bay resellers) snatch up the M1730's using cart-bots that simply grab and hold inventory for as long as possible. The bots don't buy the M1730's -- they just add them to their online shopping carts, then sit on them until Dell's 1-hr time limit returns them to inventory. This gives the bot-runners a better chance of buying optimum systems to either buy or resell on e-bay.

This practice gets pretty obvious when the same M1730 units that are available keep appearing and vanishing again every hour.

I had to monitor the Dell Outlet web site for about a week before seeing the system I wanted, then walked away with the XPS M1730 in my sig for $2500. It was a lot more work than I wanted, but I saved about 50% at the time of the purchase.

EDIT: When I checked this past Saturday 7/5/08, there were plenty of M1730's, but none with 8800m GTX-SLI. They sneak in there on a somewhat regular basis, but you have to be ready to buy the moment you see them.

Yeah www.tweakguides.com has a good guide. Though mostly I just test different settings myself. I must say it is really tedious but I can´t understand I think it is so fun to tweak games :)
