Ok after trying to diagnose this for the past 2 days, I need some help.

    XPS1530
    Intel T8300
    8600gt DDR3
    4GB ram
    Vista 32-bit
Drivers are the latest 175.70 drivers from laptop2go.
    Battery options on high performance.

After I play Age of Conan for a while (anytime between 30min-1hr) I hear the machine "lock-up" or stutter for a second and my screen flashes. Frames then drop from 20-40fps to 5-15fps and is visibly very very laggy. I can reboot the system and it works perfectly again, starting the 30min-1hr cycle again.

At first I thought it was my GPU overheating, but I have a cooler and using Rivatuner temps were consistently 67-72c under heavy load. I even checked RIGHT AFTER it messed up and it was at 67c.

    What am I missing?

Try the 174.74 drivers, then see if the problem persists.. (174.74 are VERY stable, low temp, high performance drivers)

I've tried 175.16 (recommended for the game), 174.74, 175.70 and they all do the same thing. :(

I'm using a cooler and its 67-72c max under load. I even checked right after the frames dropped.

Hm...I just got my xps 1530 4/31/08. Is this something they can replace with the tech's or is it something I have to return my full system?

I had the same issue with Battlefield 2/Project Reality. I fixed this problem by updating BIOS to the latest one.

I have the same problem, the GPU downclocks from performance 3d to low power 3d. No overheat max temp at 73C. Tried 175.75 and 175.16 and get same problem. And it is happening when i play Age f Conan.

Edit I got xps 1530 and 8600m gt

Like I said before, all of you who are experiencing this problem, try updating your BIOS to the latest one, but consult your notebook manufacturer first.

I just checked for BIOS. Looks like there was one that came out 3/25/08 but I already had it. I reflashed to the same one just in case. Still doing it...

Maybe this is something to do with Age of Conan. Weird...it runs pretty good before it happens. I was getting 20-30 fps and it was pretty smooth.

Any thoughts appreciated. Glad to know I'm not the only one.

I temporary solved it by forcing perf 3d in rivatuner but that makes the gpu not downclock at desktop instead...

Yeah I also solved it temporarily by d/ling the EVGA overclock program. I OC'd it slightly to 500/750 and I can see it slow down for a second, and then I guess the EVGA program kicks in and forces it back up to full speed. Kind of weird...

Hm...opening up CPU-Z i can see my core moving dynamically from a 6 multiplier to 12 multiplier every few seconds...also I can see the voltage changing...is that normal?

I have exactly the same problem with Age of Conan. The only way I found to get around this was by changing the graphics settings in the game to "Low" and changing Shader from 3.0 to 2.0. Not ideal and I still have the odd graphics glitch (this could be a game coding issue though)!

I am running the 174.74 driver btw...
