Hi, I have ordered a new laptop the Sager N2090. With it I have purchased several games: DiRT, Oblivion, Lost Planet, and Halo 2. Since some of these will perform better with an xbox 360 controller I just went to ebay and looked it up. I found one at a very good price, about $30. I have been talking to the seller and he says that the product is not new but is a pull from defective 3 red light systems. What does this mean? The controller has only been used to test the buttons. Thank you for the help.

A 3 red light on the xbox 360 means a hardware failure. That shouldn't affect the controller at all. Just make sure you are getting the PC version of the xbox 360 controller. By the way, amazon sells them for $30.99 including shipping

You can use an 360 controller on the PC as long as you install the driver. The 3 red light problem on the 360 is a hwardware failure dealing with heat, this does not affect controllers in anyway. You might be better off just buying the controller in a store though, I've seen them for 30$ in places before.

I don't know about DirT, but the other games are native to a game pad, and feel a little more natural when using it.
Make sure the 360 controller he sends you is the corded version. You won't be able to use a wireless one unless you have the wireless transmitter. Otherwise, driver installation is a cinch. I have an Xbox 360 controller I use to play some games, it works pretty well. -
Thanks a lot for the info. This controller is actually $27 total so i think it is a better deal. It is also not wireless, does this mean that I do not have to install any new drivers?
-
Go Here and choose each option box. It will get you the driver download.
Its a very simple driver, and it only turns on when you are using the controller.
I think I installed the driver before using the controller.
I had some serious USB 2.0 issues that I could only fix by reinstalling service pack 2, but for most other people the controller install is a piece of cake. -
Thanks a bunch! You said earlier that DiRT didn't need or wasn't capable of playing with a controller but I have heard that many people have had problems with te keyboard bieng way too sensitive.
-
So, in other words, I've never played it so I don't know what it is like with/without a game pad. It might be the best way to play.
I've played all 3 of the other games on both PC and Computer, and I mentioned that they played well with the controller.
Anyway, have fun gaming! -
I have played all the games u mentioned with the xbox360 controller and they all work as if ur playing them in an xbox360 (vibration, same button config...etc), however I dont know if oblivion would work...
-
So is it worth getting a controller for gaming? I do like the feel of it. Also comparing it to other controllers as well.
-
Hell yes it is. I just ordered mine a couple of minutes ago. A nice black one to use with my projector I'll be building
I'm mainly buying it to play N64 games on my emulator, with the feel of an N64. It's just not the same with a keyboard. I also plan to use it with Rainbow Six Vegas.
Are you getting a wired or wireless one? The wired ones are a bit lighter, which can screw it up for some people. -
you're buying an xbox controller to play n64 games??? I think you should just go with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826127207

that rumble pad seems cool. but the xbox 360 controller sure as hell looks a lot better. lol.
-
got a wireless 360 controller. they work but u have to have a usb piece that lets you use the wireless, i barely use it cuz i bought it for oblivion and even though it works for oblivion....it works poorly.

I didn't know the wired one is lighter than the wireless. I'm getting the wired controller. The wireless costs 2x's more!! Maybe because it can be played on a 360 as well but I dont own a 360. Wired controller is the one for me.
