Ok, since I'm not sure which forum to post this on yet since it applies mainly to the 360 I'm posting it here:

I was wondering if anyone knew how 1080p VGA worked exactly with the Xbox 360 which brings me to these questions:

    1. Does the premium bundle come with a VGA cable or only a component cable? I'm seeing "XBOX 360 Component HD AV Cable: Gamers can experience high-definition gaming on flat-panel TV or VGA monitors" on the futureshop website which doesn't make much sense to me.

    2. Does any VGA cable allow for 1080p output? For example I read this: http://hardware.teamxbox.com/reviews/xbox-360/40/Xbox-360-VGA-HD-AV-Cable/p1/ which says that it does not output to 1080p but then this article at engadget ( http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/30/xbox-rolls-out-1080p-vga-fix/) leads me to believe microsoft unlocked 1080p for VGA in a software update?

    3. If you have a monitor that has a maximum (native) VGA resolution of 1680x1050, between 720p and 1080p, can you choose for the 360 to output at 1080p and let the monitor downscale it to its native resolution or will it only be able to output at 720p and have the monitor upscale it?

Thanks a ton in advance to anyone who can answer any of these questions as it can save me a ton of cash.

    1. The prenium comes with a component & HDMI out, no cable included AFAIK

    2. I think you must use component/dvi/hdmi for HD

    3. Use 720p

One the VGA does allow for 1080p if your television supports it, if not it goes to your highest resolution. I believe when you have a monitor though it recognizes all the different resolutions your monitor supports and you can choose. I have a VGA cable for my TV, only thing I didn't like about it was that I couldn't change all the visuals settings I wanted to because it locks some out. Also the 360 does not come with a VGA cable, you have to buy one separately for 40 bucks from MS.

So does that mean the Xbox recognizes resolutions other than 720p and 1080i/p for VGA output? Do you know if that includes 1680x1050? And then what happens to the games since AFAIK they are only coded for 720p and some for 1080p. Do they all just choose 720p and the Xbox upscales to the selected VGA resolution?

Man I don't want to give you wrong info as to how the games look at those resolutions, but I do know for sure the 360 recognizes it, because I know some guys with 1680x1050/16:10 reso/aspect monitors and they play their 360 just fine. I mean man I'm guessing it looks great they don't seem to have any issues with it. It will probably upscale it to your resolution and fill out your picture.

    1. The Premium does NOT come bundled with a VGA cable, it does in fact come with a component/composite hybrid cable. It'll allow you to play your games on an HDTV or a SDTV, these cables have a switch and you switch it to whichever you want.

    2. Initially VGA did not allow 1080p but through a simple software update it does now. It supports 1080p through HDMI, VGA and Component.

    3. I'm not sure but I bet you wont be able to do 1080p since it's not a 1920x1200 res monitor. The most you'll be able to do is 720p. It'll still look great, just not as grea a 1080p

Thanks for the help guys. I just ordered an Elite that I found for a good price and am planning to go digital output. Thanks a lot anyway though.
