I haven't played it, but isn't the game pretty new? Most of the new games have support for 360 controllers. Well at least the new "Games for Windows Live" games do.

Most of us on these forums use the Xbox360 controller with our PC games so I have no idea why you would think anyone here would be against them. I also use that controller with many games and emulation. I have never played APB but I would expect native Xbox360 controller support out of the box with no third party solutions required.

Yes, games to work with the Xbox 360 controller.

If you use the wired controller like me, all you have to do is plug it in, and your ready to go.

If you use wireless, you need a thing (forget the name) to plug into your USB port to receive the wireless signal.

As for the games, they have to support the Xbox 360 controller. Most Games for Windows Live support the controller, all you have to do is select "Controller or Gamepad" from the settings menu, and you should see the Xbox 360 controller there.

Some games do not support the 360 controller though. A quick look through Google should help you with that.

I usually search for something along the lines of:

    "Prototype PC Xbox 360 controller"

And usually the first few listings will have information on if the game supports the controller or not.

APB is an MMO. Unless it's completely different than all the other MMOs out there, you're not going to have enough buttons on a controller to map everything.
