I think you forgot to mention that you are getting 60 FPS or more , right? Many Xbox 360 and PS3 games are limited to around 30 FPS and 720P or below in quite a few cases.
-
Heh yeah it never goes below 100+ fps. So I just turned on adaptive vsync to lock it at 60 fps constantly for a butter smooth experience. It puts out visuals + speed that xbox one and ps4 could only dream of having. I think it would take more than doubling of the current gen console power to get there.
The one frame where it shows 40 is because the HDD stuttered during the shot. The real time framerate almost always pegs near 200 fps if I turn vsync off. -
My 2 year old xbox controller is making squeaking sounds on the mini joystick. Very annoying. Anyone else have this issue and possible solution?
-
Open it up and clean it. They are very easy to disassemble and put back together. My left thumbstick button had stopped working. I opened it up and it was pretty obvious as to why. After removing all the crud it works like new again.
-
Does opening it void any warranty?
-
Not sure, see if they'll swap it first otherwise what do you have to loose if they don't cover it anyway?

I am in need of some advice related to this thread. First just a little background.
After using consoles for much of my life over the past few years I have been getting more and more into PC gaming. I built a "get job the job done Desktop (sports a single GTX660)" and have been pretty happy. I play mostly adventure type games and have always used a Xbox PC or PS3-modded controller (I tried playing Left 4 dead2 with a controller, it was awful). I have a PS3 to play exclusives and competitive FPS.
My new Sager comes in next week with a GTX 780M (I decided to purchase this rather than a PS4), which means now I have just about made the journey to the dark-side. I would like to play BF4 but I know I will get creamed with a controller, problem is I hate using a mouse/keyboard, granted I have never tried more than a couple sessions because it feels so awkward but I figured I should learn (it's time to put on the big-boy pants).
So my long-winded question is this: can anyone recommend a good mouse to help with the transition, is there a trick to feeling comfortable with mouse/kb or is it just persistence? -
Like anything, the more you use it or practice, the better you become. Having said that my friend still uses as Pad for PC even while playing BF3/4 and does a pretty good job despite the inherit lack of fidelity. He just likes using a pad infront of the TV and I get it. I use the TV also but put the K/M on the coffee table but plant myself on the floor.
-
In Battlefield I can fly and drive better with a controller or joystick than with KB&M, but for gunfights forget about it.
-
Yeah same here. I keep the pad next to me for most of the vehicles. I'm quietly hoping the steam controller will be the answer for my personal setup. Here's to hoping.
-
So it really seems it is just a matter of practice. Figured as much. How long did it take you to become proficient with kb/mouse?
-
From the small review I read, the controller will be good, maybe better than current contollers, but still not match a kb&m for precision. But that was a current beta controller, and they only had it for a few hours at most. (This was from a unboxing that was on reddit). I am also hoping.

Go for a gaming mouse with extra buttons - Logitech G5xx or G7xx, Razer Hex, etc. Controllers are very ergonomic; they are comfortable to use because unlike KB+M, all buttons are right where you hands/fingers/thumbs rest. The advantage to a gaming mouse with extra buttons is you can train yourself to remember those buttons much like you did with a controller, and you'll have quicker access to commands than if you had to use the keyboard exclusively.
Example, in some games ill put commands that normally use harder to reach keys (like f1 or any function keys, g,h,r,) and instead set them as the side buttons on my g500. This means i'm not using my left hand to stretch out all over the keyboard.octiceps likes this. -
Thanks. I might try that. Currently, that is my main issue with the KB/mouse....my hands being so far apart, it feels so unnatural right now.

Well, it is unnatural. That's the main drawback with KB + M. If you find using the keyboard part to be totally uncomfortable, then I'd go an extra step and besides a gaming mouse I'd get a keypad as well, like the logitech pad or the razer orbweaver. They are expensive ($50 and up) but they are designed to be as comfortable as possible. If you do go that route, I strongly suggest that BOTH your mouse and gamepad be from the same manufacturer (ie both Logitech or Razer) that way you only need one program to configure both.

That thing looks ridiculous but I am intrigued. Thanks for the info. I think I'll start off with a gaming mouse (right now I just have a two button) and see how that goes.

Just takes a bit of practice I suppose... I've been gaming since I built my first PC 25 years ago with a mouse and keyboard, so no idea "how long" it takes, as it's all I ever knew and is by default the norm to me. Accuracy can't be touched by a controller in shooters, period. I have high hopes for the Steam controller for gaming on the go, and do use a 360 pad for racing and some action games and think it's great, but for the life of me can't aim worth a hoot in shooters and I've been using controllers since I got a NES for Christmas
I recommend a good 4 button mouse with DPI adjustment buttons... comes in very handy when switching between infantry or vehicles with turrets in BF for example.
Have fun! -
Kind of 'how long is a piece of string' question. Just give it a couple of days and things won't feel so foreign to you, you'll be fine
. TBH I got really good with a K/M back in the Quake Unreal era. Then I gave PC gaming a decent break and I'm pretty much Joe average these days.
Yeah I think I watched the same video, the guy looked a little awkward with it didn't he. I don't mind a learning curve as long as it improves upon analogues.be77solo likes this. -
love it.. get one ASAP. makes comp games so much more fun then a mouse
my mouse is in a box in the closet -
I have the Logitech G13 gaming pad, and I love it. I can easily adjust it to get just the right distance and angle to make it most comfortable. And I can adjust it without adjusting my screen angle or distance. My hand fits in just the right place so I never hit the wrong key by accident. I use it with my laptop without problems. I am very happy with it.
The only down sides are the initial setup time with each game. I need to remap keys so they make sense. For example setting the jump key so it is where my thumb is, etc. After setting up several games, I have the controller default so it matches most games, so now each one just needs small tweaks.
Thumbs up. -
I have a gaming mouse and wireless Xbox 360 controller. I use the controller for almost all the games, even FPS, even when I do know mouse is better for that. I just lie down on the bed with my laptop on my chest and controller on hands behind the screen (a veeeery lazy position xD) and that kind of comfort cannot be match by keyboard. Its funny because at some points I need a really precise control to aim and I just grab the mouse with my right hand while left one still grabbing my controller just to do the needed shoot and then go back to controller (I feel stupid about that).
With that being said I discovered THIS:
It's supposed to drastically improve your accuracy on fps with controller, even when it looks kinda dumb (and kinda expensive for two pieces of plastic with no components at all) those 229 comments with overall 4.5/5 score have me intrigued, I find hard for all of those comments to be fake, I also research for other sites reviews and all of them says they are pretty good and actually helps. Anyways I ordered them and I should receive them this week.
I can share my experience when I get them
-
I used to DIY this kind of thing with chopsticks.

Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
As long as the controller's sticks can resolve a small-enough range of motion, a longer stick would naturally allow you to control motion more accurately. However, I'm not really sure why they're worth $13 when you could do the same thing with a kleenex and a couple inches of duct tape... -
did a little shell replacement -- figured i'd show it off here:
easy to disassemble, huge PITA to reassemble. kept the OEM black bumper and bottom plates, d-pad, joysticks, (rechargeable) battery pack, and triggers. really diggin' the halloween theme. also kept the OEM chrome home button but the new LED ring diffuser is unfortunately garbage (old one wouldn't fit). the keypad is just for looks and weight unless i'm using it with my 360.
it's actually more orange/less yellow.
anybody else modded/re-shelled theirs, and, if so, what color? will go for translucent or chrome if i do my other one.
Xbox controller for PC games?
