Yep, you have hypothetically started your own game studio. To set a few ground rules this is your first game and you have the millions to spend on a top flight production but you wont be able to build a game that you may want but is unlikely to be a commercial success. An example would be that I would love to make a highly detailed F-18 flight sim. Think Falcon 4. While it would find a niche this game would be unlikely to generate the revenues I need to stay in business. Further while it is hard to come up with a wholly new idea the game should have some twist or something slightly different to make it stand out in a crowded market. What game would you build? Why? What would it include? Feel free to comment on other peoples choices but please MAKE WHATEVER CRITICISM YOU MAY HAVE CONSTRUCTIVE.
Myself, I would make a mech rpg. Think sword an sorcery but you are not leveling your character but rather your mech. Up front both mech games and rpgs play well cross platform. An important point when this is my first game and I need a commercial success. There are a lot of possibilities here since getting out of the tokienesk world and into the modern mech universe means most any weaponry is available and there would of course be many classes of mech. You could also do most anything you could do in the garden variety rpg. You would have stat points to distribute as you leveled, you could for instance get the stealth generator as equipment or skill and sneak around doing melee, you could have nano bots constantly repairing your mech giving you a +health aura, the list is endless. My vision says the game will have a long dynamic campaign and include multiplayer both against machine and PvP. One area my vision fails is whether the game would play better diablo style or as a more in depth rpg?
At any rate thats my game. What say you?

I like the Mech idea! I loved the MechWarrior series back in the 90's. MechWarrior 2 was my favorite. I wish they'd make an updated one.
I have been a big combat flight simulator aficionado. I owned and played all the Jane's Sims, and even contributed to the community and ran the site "Jane's Hangar" dedicated to Jane's sims.
My idea would be almost akin to the Battlefield series, except with simulations. Have a long term persistent real-time war, and you can take command of a detailed F/A-18 E/F, F-22, F-16, Apache, Cobra and even have a ground war with simulated tanks, plus have submarines and carrier groups, and even infantry units for the FPS/tactical type of feel.
Each person would have a role in the war, and while you could switch roles, you couldn't do it "on the fly" like in Battlefield, but have to complete your missions, land, or return to base, and switch roles. It would almost be an RPG in the sense that a pilot wouldn't also be a tank commander or sub commander. But any person could control multiple roles. There could be some automation so that you wouldn't always need a human to man a station during an autopilot session, but would get warned of an incoming threat so you could take control with better chance of survival. This, of course, would require ultimate teamwork, and lots of dedicated time, but I think you could make it work. -
I want an up-to-date version of Privateer or Freelancer.
However, I want it set up as an sandbox RPG in the lines of Fallout.
You began life as a promising young pilot for the "losing side" but the current regime won the war before you ever got to fire a shot.
You were offered amnesty... but literally nothing else but the clothes on your back.
Your traitorous uncle stood with the other side and got a shipping company out of the deal and "offers" (as in you either do this or starve) you a freighter-pilot gig in a garbage system (also serves as your tutorial).
The freighter is an old rust bucket, but a solid old design and allows you to advance both your ship with upgrades and you personally with skills. There are no "levels", but experience points gained in missions and for defeating enemies may be used to up piloting skills, negotiation skills, combat skills and gain perks. Money gained through contracts, trading, and mercenary missions allow you to purchase equipment upgrades, personal weapons, newer or different design ships, modding ships, and even allow you to hire mercenaries or even buy a home base and perhaps even flunkies...
Do you hire that attractive turret gunner or go for one less likely to distract you? Do you get a robot instead? Do you hire a wingman with a more agile ship to cover you, or a heavy gunship... or maybe even a decoy freighter?
Maybe you'd rather buy the ship and hire a pilot?
You first choices are obvious... do you work for your uncle or just steal the ship? (both will have benefits and downsides)
Do you work with the new government or go rogue?
Do you work as a freighter or hire out as hired gun right away?
Do you play a big fish in a little pond, or check out the bigger ponds?
Game difficulty would not scale with pilot like other such games... it would scale with the area you are in...
Literally, endgame would be a choice... establishing yourself in one faction or th other... or your own...
Do you go down in history as the hero of one faction or another... or the richest man in the known universe... or the most powerful pirate? -

I would make a modern war FPS game, I know what you're thinking "but there's already tons of those". Well my game would consist of a few huge servers (region specific) supporting hundreds to thousands of players in a massive global on-line war campaign. The game would consist of one large open world battlefield where thousands of players belonging to different armies/factions would battle. The game would feature land, sea, and air elements.
-
I actually spent some time last years looking for a decent Mech RPG, and there were none to be found. You'd think in such an advanced gaming society that's saturated with endless amounts of copy cat FPS and RPGs there'd be at least one decent Mech RPG, but there's not =( -
I would like to find a good combat helicopter sim or a nice car sim where cars can be downloaded (for free) while including rally, F1, and current and old cars and have real performance numbers with real upgrades and be able to make custom courses.
-
Two games:
The first would be a Battlestar Galactica game. The remade one. Dark and gritty. Space fighter sims have dulled down. This could have a great storyline with some memorable characters. If possible I would add in some sort of first person shooter aspect. It could be epic.
Star Trek
Basically, the game I want is a combination of Bridge Commander and Elite Force with RPG elements. Start out as a young crewman/officer and work your way up. You can pic a specialty (Ops, Tactical, Science, Navigation, Engineering, ect). You learn, you adapt.
Go on away missions and earn recognition. In space battles, control your station or aspect and do the same. But you could also add all kinds of relationships with the crew. Different aliens, ships, planets . . . the possibilities are endless . . . -
I would make a helicopter sim.
It would be like this:
your a pilot in the United States Marine Corps and you are flying a highly detailed, very acurate flight model of a AH-1W or UH-1N helicopter and you are in the year 2003, the invasion of iraq. You wil condut recon missions, close air support, patrols etc.
I would add in depth tutorials, unlike Falcon 4.0 where you have to read a 700page manual.
The game will be based off of real missions and based on real time. I would later add on expansions like falluja, OIF, etc. or other aircraft like the CH-53E,CH-46, or the armys AH-64.
When designing the game i woud work closly with Bell helicopters, and real helo pilots in the Marines.
The game will simulate what it would be like to be a helicopter pilot in the iraq war.
Or i would design a Starship Troopers MMO. Do you have what it takes to be a citizen? -
I wouldn't mind seeing a Mech RPG that also had some out-of-mech story component/gameplay as well. -
-
I would make a Field Hockey game. I m a big fan!!! Sadly there are no games for it
-
definitely the previously said massive-FPS. It would be a continuous battle, and would just be massive clashes with thousands of people, preferably in 3 armies. The only problem would be etting every player in the fight, as many would be left in the dust by experienced players. I guess it would be sort of like Wake Island in BF2, except that it would be based on the border of Oriental-Asia and Western Asia. I'd like it to be fairly realistic, with soldiers of higher ranks controlling AI squads.
Also, If possible I would make a GTA-esque game that would change. For instance, you kill a man in a nice neighborhood in his home. Neighbors get scared and move away, leaving empty, run-down homes. land values drop, and within time it turns into a ghetto. Same would be you crashing a car into a building, putting a hole int it. Instead of flying out of your car windshield on imact, you put a hole in it. It gets marked off by authorities, and is eventually rebuilt differently. -
+1 for the MMOFPS idea.
Another thing is a World War I FPS game... Why don't many (if any) of those exist? -
Holy Moly! Mech Warrior 2 Platinum costs $75 at Amazon.com!
-
An addictive 6dof game like Descent but a bit friendlier to newcomers in terms of multiplayer so it entices a wider audience.
-
I would update the Monkey Island series. It's time Guybrush Threepwood came to 3D! Perhaps in TF2 animation style, but 3D nonetheless. I have dozens of swordfighting insults I want to throw.

I've had this idea for an action-adventure game in that takes the word "epic" and shatters your idea of it. The inspirations for it: Princess Mononoke, Xenogears, Devil May Cry, Drakenguard, Shadow of the Colossus and Akira. I've had the idea for years and like usual I still decline to really tell people since I really don't want it stolen
-
Either a sequel based on the Crusader series or a game based on the concept.
I still have fond memories of getting past heavily-guarded areas either through sheer firepower or through picking off security cameras, guards and servomechs one by one until the way is clear. -
So I have had this theory for sometime now.
What if "you" are the ultimate gaming machine?
Now, I believe in God and all that mumbo jumbo. Ive read the bible and understand it all, but I like to think outside the box.
And I also believe philosophy is great. Took some classes in college a few years ago and it makes you think...Lol
So what if youre the ultimate gaming machine? haha cheers -
Commanche 3 anyone?

What about Comanche 3?

Elders scrolls IV as a MMORPG.

End of the world fps would be cool.

hmm... MechWarrior esque MMORPG... ?

I beta tested 3025 before EA shut it down and thought it was great. Then Microsoft bought all the rights to FASA Interactive but never released it.
There goes the answer to the OP's hypothetical though....you got the capital to throw around and want to have a game that's a financial success you buy the rights to FASA Studio's titles for Battletech and Shadowrun.
Create a Shadowrun MMO or tap some of the other historical eras from the Battletech Universe like the Star League, Aramis Coup, and the Succession Wars for offline games. -
a shooter with multiplayer, campaign and all that stuff
somethin` clever..

Project 1: Firebird
A huge sandbox game based around all the Pontiac Firebirds ever made... players owns a garage and a banged up 2nd Gen Firebird... can race, deliver, taxi and whatnot to make money, restore car, buy next cars... huge ton of customization options for each car, and not just visual. DMM for vehicle damage, and whatnot. Based around one huge city but with race tracks and stuff around it. Basically a huge car mechanicking and driving sandbox. Based around Pontiac Firebirds. Or just F-bodies in general.
Project 2: Artificial War
Huge sandbox game, once again, but with... paint-balling. Starts with two small teams, with simple equipment. Both teams in constant state of 'war'. All happens in one big city, with time, more and more members join, extra teams with possible alliances appear, and better equipment comes up - all the way up to armored pickup trucks with paint gattling guns. -
I m intend to make warcraft IV!!!
bcz it had been a long time warcraft III....
but warcraft IV might make a lot of ppl unable to play it...
bcz it wil be very high graphic i guess... -
For me? I would like to design a MMORPG. Which will similar to Guildwars, but with lots of unique stories.
Unique stories ? yes. it will be similar to adding quest mods or story mods to the gameplay. for those stories are some the fantasy stories which can writien by player or fantasy stories author. paper stories will be converted into game mods with its unique land and unique NPC and unique battle. in addition, those story will have their unique item such as weapon and armor. they could be design by player and author. the gameplay can be done by solo or co-op.(simliar to guildwars game play but with LOTS of different story questline can play) and the gameplay will base on the mid age, such as magic and sword .
how to make it work?
the game Company will create a MMORPG game(similar to Guildwars or Oblivion) which also allow to adding mods. then it is possible to collect the paper stories from author or form the people who good at written fantasy stories. then the company will have a group of ppl will go through those stories and convert them into actual gameplay .if possible, allowing player adding their story mods.
I wish i could see a MMORPG like that.i will happy to play it

Established lore is only constraining if the lore sucks.
Addendum: Actually good lore is constraining...but only to competing games of the same genre since their lore will be weighed in comparison. ;þ -
Something along the lines of...pong...but i would name it gnop and make millions =o
-
I did mention the game would be rated mature and have strippers right?
-
I'd probably make a HD remix of streets of rage
-
I'd take Starflight, Outcast, and the old pen & paper RPG ' Traveller' and turn into an epic MMO including a mission toolset for users a la Neverwinter Nights.
-
MMO-survival horror game just after an apocalyptic event. Controls like Deadspace/RE series and combat will be very gritty.
Players gain skills (mundane) but death still happens quickly (aka no IWIN skills or significant HP growth). Equipment is very rare and enemies converging on large groups will force most people to go solo or in very small teams.
Persistent world that's changeable by the players (aka clearing an area to make for a settlement). Scripted events that happen. PVP is unrestricted and free looting. -
-
Halo 4 for the PC only lol.....and def a final fantasy 7 remake....of course for the pc only....with up to date visuals
You're a game designer, what game would you make?
