Not only has it been a great year in the realm of laptops, it's also been so in the gaming realm as well with a plethora of critically acclaimed titles hitting the market.
So, like the title says, this is for everyone to post their game or games (try to limit it to 3 if you can) of the year. Since I myself don't have a laptop yet, I'll keep it open to desktops as well.
Additionally, if there's an old game that you've recently gotten back into & just can't pull yourself away from, feel free to post that too.![]()
My top 3 (the first three to be installed on my future lappy!):
-Quantum of Solace
PC players now have their 'Goldeneye' (best PC Bond title to date). Great multiplayer.
-Crysis: Warhead
Crysis on steroids. Nuff said.
-NFS: Most Wanted
Great car selection recalls past NFS titles, customization options add depth & replay value. Together with the outstanding graphics + decent level design, this is the best NFS PC title out there.
-
Single Player: Fallout 3
Multi Player: Left 4 Dead -
I haven't played that many games but I live off two:
Half-Life (& Portal)
Oblivion +20-30 mods
EDIT: Haven't had a chance to try fallout 3 yet... -
Mr._Kubelwagen More machine now than man
Hmm, Left4Dead.
Biggest disappointment? Spore. -
fallout is a modern oblivion
-
Probably:
Call of Duty 4
Company of Heroes
(are those 2008?) -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
I've yet to play sooo many still.
Dead Space
Far Cry 2 -
COH is 2007 or maybe even 2006.
I was like "man, what multiplayer games came out this year?"
I'm still playing TF2 -
sins of a solar empire
COD4 -
quantum solace? I heard it was mediocre
-
If consoles count: Gears of War 2
PC only : COD5 -
After thinking about it, I'm not sure what to pick.
This really was a terrible year overall for games.
I can't think of a single GoTY contender that wasn't a sequel or spin-off of something else.
I suppose I'd pick Sins of a Solar Empire. -
Terrible year?
I agree there were lots of sequels and spinoffs and ports, but I have a half dozen games sitting on my shelf I have barely been able to play:
Sins of a Solar Empire
GRiD
Far Cry 2
Fallout 3
Dead Space
Left 4 Dead
Stalker Clear Sky
Mass Effect
I've only touched a little on each, gotta decide which one to sink my teeth into. -
And the results for Notebook Review Forums: Game Of the Year Competition are:

Hmmm, this is a tough decision:
1. Crysis: WARHEAD

3. Dead Space
4. Assassin's Creed
5. DMC 4
6. Far Cry 2 -
SomeFormOFhuman has the dumbest username.
1. Red Alert 3
2. COD4 and COD World at War (I'd still prefer COD4 for some reason)
3. Crysis Warhead
4. Far Cry 2 (Still in the process of playing - 58% done)
5. Total Annihilation - I'm still playing one of the oldest yet the first true 3D RTS game that's made in 1998. I'm still gaming on both rigs; laptop and desktop.
I'm probably gonna have a look at DMC 4 and Fallout 3. I don't have those games yet. -
disappointment? Haze.
-
I will have to preemptively say Persona 4 (picking up my copy tomorrow
)
Good bye Christmas break! -
Dissapointment to me was: Fallout 3

italian.madness Notebook Consultant
IMO:
1) GTA IV
2) Fallout 3
3) The Witcher Enhanced -
-
Gunz is THE game every year!!
-
for me:
best game of 2008: Fallout 3
best multiplayer game: L4D
best story: Fallout 3
biggest disappointment: spore
best fps: crysis warhead
best rpg: Fallout 3
best action: L4D
most scariest: not sure yet
best graphics: FC2
i only own L4D and Fallout 3, but i've played a bit of the others.
fallout 3 is especially awesome to me because i live 20 mins from washington DC, and i get to see the city all wrecked, and it's kinda tight! -
I kinda wondered while playing how accurate it was, I've only been to DC once and haven't gotten around to actually checking myself. -
well there is no spring vale, or megaton.
i thought they were trying to be funny. there is a springfield about 15 minutes south of DC.
the memorials are similar in design, but location is kinda weird. i know the game has the potomac river, which goes right next to my work! though my work isn't in the game :-(
haha, but the Jefferson memorial looks really similar, and i think thats off the 14th street bridge, so I'm assuming that bridge going towards it in Fallout 3 is the 14th street bridge. I wish they kept the signs accurate, but many aren't.
i mean, landwise, it's pretty accurate with the physical nature of the area, but the layout of the area isn't exactly the same, but the architecture of DC and whatnot is similar. the subway system there is very much similar. we have the DC metro system, which branches out all over the northern VA area and all over DC, much like in Fallout 3.
there are many similarities, but it isn't exactly accurate. but it sure simulates the feeling of being in the area! ... except for the wastelandness -
-
Biggest disappointment: Age of Conan
-
RaceDriver: Grid
One of the best racers ever exept.
> Theirs no pit stops.
> which makes the 24 hour race just stupid its just 24mins of full throttle racing Le mans is all about fuel economy.
> You start randomly on the Grid which is also stupid and theirs no qualifying
where they thinking seriously their so much detail it could have been game of the year but they turned it into an arcade game i mean why the frack would they do that all that time spent on the game....
Its like making a farrari you buy and think its the best a farrari can be then they go and make an even better one and you wonder why dident they just make your model as good as it could be in the first place.
Sorry for my rant but im sure you understand -
SomeFormOFhuman has the dumbest username.

Dead Space has my vote for game of the year. Such an amazing game!!!!!!!!
-
Mainly looking forward to Starcraft 2 which will probably consume 90% of my gaming time then, and nothing else will matter. -
Disappointment?
DNF -
Oh yea game that pissed me off was Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
It was good but the fact that you couldnt get the 4 chars that
were in the xbox version was really not ok.I mean c'mon pc's
have way more power than consoles why the f*** not?
I really wanted to play as the hulk. -
Ha, I'm the same way... I love playing them, but I love buying them as well ha... I have to think of it as a collection, only way I can possibly justify it.
-
For me, although only one came out this year:
*Medieval II Total War (2006). Started playing it in May and played it the most of any game.
*Rock Band (XBox, 2007). Great party game.
*Trackmania Nations Forever (2008). Very good racing game, and completely free.
I often wait awhile to buy games to let the prices fall a bit, since most games include expansion packs and then are released in a Complete version for the same price as the original later on anyways. Why spend $200 on 4 games when I can spend $100 and get 5 games, and usually more content due to complete/compilation packs at that?
'Course part of that is being a college student and not having tons of money - that may change somewhat when I actually have a decent income. -
I agree with you Apollo13. I tend to be more patient these days. Wait 6-12 months and you can usually get the game, plus an expansion or two wrapped up into a "Gold" or "Platinum" boxed set for half the price of the original game. Granted for multiplayer games, this doesn't bode so well since many games only have an online shelflife of 12-18 months before everyone moves on to the "next best thing." There are exceptions of course, but solid single player games with multiplayer modes rarely last very long.

^Agree again, and also take advantage of Steam's weekend sales
Bioshock for $15? Yes please!
