When you game or even work in general, are you using your laptop as-is or hooking up to an external monitor?
-
-
As is. Because I don't have a USB keyboard and the laptop's keyboard is right in front of the laptop's screen.
@hax0rJimDuggan: what do you do? -
depends where... at school - built-in, at work - hooked up, at home - i prefer to use my desktop
but sometimes i use the note as it is...
-
I use the external monitor. My external monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 710v. It's a 17 incher (1280x1024). It's been quite a while since I've been using this monitor, but it's been working like a charm for all these years, so not really interested in changing it.
Usually when I game, I fire up uTorrent on my laptop screen (on my left side) and fire up a game on my external monitor (on my right side).
When I work, I usually have two word documents next to each other, i.e. the more important subject for school on my external screen, and the less important subject for school on my laptop screen. -
I work better on the external screen. I put my lappy on its cradle. Plug in the Samsung Syncmaster 931 2ms screen, hook up my logitech mouse+keyboard via the USB connector, plug in my X-Fi Notebook, hook up my Altec, bass to the max and doing work
.

Sometimes I hook my laptop up to my 24" external and go crazy on ultra-high settings. Yup, this P300 is so powerful I can max out vitrually any game on my 24" monitor.
Did I mention this external monitor is a standard def TV? -
I've had a hard time deciding, but it seems like as-is. I'm using a 17" laptop with 1920x1200 and I have a 22" at 1680x1050. The 22" Dell is better quality and the colors really pop. The laptop resolution is fantastic though.
I really need to sell my 22" so I don't go crazy. -
I generally use a 22" external for home (at University) use with bluetooth keyboard/mouse. When visiting home I hook it up to the 40"+ Plasma
-
im using my laptop here at university but i do have another moniter but the resolutions are different so i only use external for multi tasking

I use my laptop as-is, and I'm lovin it. Although, I do wish I had more space sometimes.
Oh well, I'll think about that when this lappy gets old -
32" HDTV as external monitor. Love it.
-
Enlighten me. -
I use my laptop display and haven't felt the need to do otherwise. Though I think it may be cool sometimes to have an external monitor & keyboard/mouse

52" here in teh NOC is what I use -
someone tell us -
with the wireless mouse and keyboard in the retractable table underside extended, and the TV put to the rear of the desk, I'm about 3 feet from the screen. Very confortable and no eyestrain at all. I also clamp my MOMO forcefeedback wheel to the desk when I'm racing with my rFactor league.
I can even take the keyboard and the mouse to the couch when I want. Good for games like Medieval II Total War. The picture was taken from my couch.
the attached pic is my girlfriend using the MOMO wheel. The pic is horrible because the cellphone camera was crap, but it gives a good idea about the position relative to the screen.Attached Files:

24" LCD at work, use the built-in at home until black friday when I'll likely purchase a Sony or Samsung 40+" HDTV.
I have a 2nd 19" Samsung CRT I can plug in from my desktop at home, but I am usually too lazy to bother.
In keeping with the side-topic...
As for GF, my wife went psycho... so looking for a new (non-psycho) one.
And yes, if this IT department is of any indication, geeks with jobs tend to land very nice-looking significant others...
A word of warning...
Watch out as either the moon is aligned or something is in the water.
We have had 5 "geek" wives/significant others go wonky in a few months here. -

I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy...
Lots of fish in the sea... go for the ones that aren't abusing prescription drugs. -
On topic we are getting a 50"+ tv around christmas time I will have to steal that for my gaming time here and there.
off topic
My wife is the typical crazy woman. Everything is my fault she cant do anythign wrong I never do anything right, and when I finish her "honey do" list in a timely and awesome fashion its never enough. -
I use my laptop's 17" @ 1920x1200 screen, I do not have any external monitors that are not CRT, sadly, but the 17" does fine and looks beautiful.

have to go with external on my 24" LCD
