Man heres one, In ffXI, when the economy tanked in the game cause of gil sellers, my server got hit particularly hard. You couldn't buy anything you needed because it was 5000000000000000 gil !!! So you thought hey what the heck, I'll tough it out and farm some materials to sell to other people to save up enough, realizing after a week of farming you only made a measly 100000 I rage quit that for 2 months.
Went back to it after they fixed the economy a bit, got into the 50's range and remember waiting HOURS for a party to get set up to go level. Then once you get a damn party you go out to the place to battle and half the people all of a sudden have to LEAVE. Man I wasted years on that game and just thinking about this is making me angry.
Or going to go kill a rare monster for a rare piece of armor just to find when you arrive an hour later there are 5 characters named: A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 camping the damn thing.......

bad company 2 unload full mg36 magnum ammo cache into somebody camping 50 feet away then I approach them and knife them in the head then they see me turn around and kill me with their rifle.
edit: just to be clear it was burst fire so I probably hit them 90% of the time. -

Actually I take the above post back. It was definately every single time I tried to pug eye of eternity in wrath of the lich king and !@#$% noobs don't know how to strafe to avoid the dragons moves in the 3rd stage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I end up being the only one there soloing it for 3 minutes until the timer runs out.

Knifing or melee in any fps seems like a crap shoot, it never works except for once in a blue moon, and when it doesn't work they guy hears the noise and turns around to shoot you. But theres always a guy who has the fine art of knowing when to press the button down to knife you and runs around knifing everyone all willy nilly, but you can never seem to knife anyone...... I stick to sniping.....
-
When you get pwned in DotA by a retarted lucky kid and he starts screaming "xaxaxaxX0AX0AX0A nooooob". Or when you chase some guy with 20 hp left and all of a sudden you get ganked by his team and whiped (usually he needs 1 more hit to die). And generally everytime your getting pwned and people call you noob, thats mega frustrating.

Had another rage moment today courtesy of BFBC2; I shot a sniper in the head with my revolver (which is a one hit kill with a headshot), heard the "ping" noise that you hear when you make a headshot, and proceeded to empty the remaining 5 rounds of my revolver into him (2 torso shots kill with that weapon). He turned around, and knifed me in the face, killing me. This hit detection is REALLY turning into a gamebreaking issue.
-
BFBC2 rage moments here. Sometimes, it's about the hit detection, when I swear I've unloaded 20+ bullets into the enemy with my LMG, using an ACOG scope. You see the red dot on his face. And I can SEE the hit detection, but somehow he escapes, and pumps in a burst fire in me, and I die. I rage.
Other times, it's my own incompetency that makes me rage. Honestly, I do the stupidest things in battlefield, I rage at myself. Nothing comes to mind at the moment, but rest assured, half my deaths are because I did something really stupid. My KDR is .59 because of stupid deaths.
And finally, retarded squad mates. Reviving me during a fire fight, trying to do some retarded thing while there's an Apache or UAV running around raining hell down us, while I'm trying to shoot the thing down, not backing me up in a firefight, but instead booking it trying to get a sniper spot somewhere, leaving me to die. It's because of these moments I've been playing with only my friends as squad mates. They may not be as good, but hell, they know not to ditch their squad and know how to go for the objective. -
Hmm, probably when I used to play WoW(raids), especially in wrath hardmodes. It's bad enough that you rely on other people to complete a task correctly and have them fail in some amazingly retarded fashion, it's worse when said task is so trivial that a 10yr old with ADD could accomplish it.
A distant 2nd place would be any game that spawns you in a deathzone - here's looking at you, black ops. BFBC2 is also occasionally guilty of this. -
actually any game when i experience CTD's with no reason whatsoever.

back to when i used internet by phone (idk how it's called), i downloaded at like 1KB/s
so i decided to download Mu online wich was like 186MB, left the pc turned on all freaking day, and when i came back it was on like 98%, i was so freaking happy that i pressed the enter key (for no particular reason) and on internet explorer, when you are downloading something the cancel button is selected and if you hit enter, well............
zomg i freaked out like a ****, i was so freaking pissed that i started throwing pillows everywhere, screamed, and went crazy!!!\
btw sorry for bad english xD -
Great post BTW, pretty interesting to hear all the crazy bugs and reasons games get so frustrating-
Agreed,
It always blows my mind when I hear stories of nerd rage stepping out of a game into real world retaliation.. I think the best solution is to find an old standby game for awhile that doesn't get under your skin, or your at least one your used to the bugs enough to work around em.
Its interesting to read so many people are driven crazy by BC2, never played it but I'm perfectly happy with battlefield 2, seems like all the complexity of BC2 is breaking the game fun.. -
It isn't the complexity that is breaking it (it is not all that complex as it is "multiplatform"), it just seems to have horrible netcode.
-
I used to play some MMORPG called TIbia thats quite bad tbh, but anyways I used dial up, and in the same day somehow I died around 8 times thanks to my slow connection -.- in that game the deathpenalty is horrendous, now make it 10 times worse xD

Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Rather embarrassingly, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time - the first boss - I think it was the prince's dad. It's one of those obnoxious gimmicky boss fights where it's really easy if you know what you're supposed to do and impossible if you haven't figured out the gimmick. At one point I got so angry that I hurled my mouse across the room and it shattered into a dozen pieces. It was six or seven years old and I'd been dying to replace it, so it wasn't a big loss (I wouldn't have done it if it were a nicer or newer mouse), but I felt pretty foolish afterwards, even though I was alone when it happened...

Hmm...
WoW (Vanilla):
Dying 100-0% as a Gnome Warlock by Undead Rogues (pre-deathcoil). Fear? Np! They'd pop Will of the Forsaken and kill me before the fear immunity wore off ...fun times. I actually destroyed a keyboard in frustration
No one likes to lose control of their character 100-0% non stop.
WoW (BC):
Playing a Retribution Paladin and trying to kill healers. Even the best gear in the game gave you no chance of achieving this unless the players were AFK. The spec was so bad that people would /lol and /spit on you regularly.
Other than that, I usually don't rage unless something is grossly unbalanced and guarantees my defeat no matter what I do. This usually only applies to MMO's. As for FPS/RTS/TBS, etc., I don't think I've ever raged. Maybe being spawn camped by snipers in FPS games, but even then, I'd lightly rage in vent. -
Halo 2 on legendary when your on the "boat" and the Banshee's come.
I got so pissed off I grabbed a controller and went outside and smashed it with a hammer.
I also got sick of dying to the 2nd level worm boss in PSO that I also smashed the game with a hammer. Which was to bad becuase I was addicated to the game and had to go through with drawl and buy another copy. -
The very first Need for speed underground (made me really 'Hulk-mad'). The only race game I played ever since is Mario Kart
edit: Oh I forget tekken on the game boy advance, the latter got destroyed by my rage...100€down the drain (which was a lot for a 14 year old kid).
edit2: Oh and umm, again around 16, I slammed my fist again the pc, and you could see a nice knuckle print (reason: The frog princes in runescape wanted to give me a frog token but I couldn't talk to her cuz a guard wouldnt stop fighting me...i'm so ashamed lol). -

Ninja Gaiden on the original Xbox is the only game where I have committed physical violence against a peripheral. I smashed my controller against the carpet, cracking the case wide open. Oddly enough, it still worked, and I eventually beat the game on normal difficulty. After that, though, I started to play most games on easy because I want to have fun and relax. Anything too difficult on that setting would get shelved or sold.
-
Same here, once I stopped being a student and took up working I didn't want to die 30 times in one spot just to say I did it on hard/legendary.... I started playing on easy/tourist just to go along for a fun ride.

MMOs.
More to the point, asshats in MMOs.
Specifically, when you have to pug with asshats in MMOs.
Oh. And MMO class "balance." -
Pre-patch car race in Mafia, so soon into the game and to find something that seems near to impossible was really a pain, I almost quit it and deleted it. Anyway I kept at it and eventually I beat it, and Mafia went on to be one of my all time favorite games. I still have the save game burned to CD somewhere in case I ever wanted to play again and couldn't get past that part. Luckily it isn't needed anymore, you can change the difficulty on the race section now. Beating the pre-patch race is still one of my greatest gaming accomplishments. XD

Any CoD4 GB loss.

I remember when I was playing FFI and I ran into some ghouls. They were barely doing any damage, but they kept paralyzing ALL my characters repeatedly. I don't think I got to do one action the whole battle. I swear it went on for like half an hour until they finally killed me. I punched a dent in the wall.

LOL. Yea I really hate it too when Minesweeper comes down to a coin toss.

I agree. I would rather have the choice of eventually playing a harder level instead of having the lowest level ridiculously hard already.

MW2.
I hate getting placed on a crappy team where everyone's attempting to snipe.
Also, when the entire other team uses a grenade launcher, and then you switch to a RPG to blow their asses off, then the call you a noob. BLARRGGG. stupid game

Starcraft 2: Zergling rushed (cheesed) by a Silver-league player.
I know how to defend against it. But just because of the spawn locations in 1v1 on a 4-player map, I happen to scout the zerg base too late, and can't get defenses up fast enough.
Hate it. -
Owning a Zerg player while wondering why he has so little of an army. I thought it was poor macro, but it turned out that he was mutating most of his zerglings into banelings. I tried to use sentries to block them off, but since I was going pretty zealot heavy, they managed to take out most of my army. Luckily, I still won.

Use to play an mmorpg called flyff years ago. Somehow lost an item worth around $300usd that i worked months ingame for. Man was i angry.

Heres a common one, game that autosaves, but autosaves in a place you will always die and the next save is like hours back in the game, or there isn't a replacement save to load from and your stuck starting over again, I've hulked over this a few times.
-
Yes, been there done that. Grrr.

I hate when that happens but its a little bit fun respawning a couple times trying to see if you can move quickly enough... This happened to me on one of the last levels of crysis 2 against a boss and I would spawn and die within 1/4 of a second. -
My biggest moment was playing mirror's edge on PS3, that game is awesome when you do it right but it can get so frustrating. Anyways, i ended up having to take the controller apart to fix it after my rage moment if you know what i mean... Those controllers may look a bit flimsy but they're quite sturdy after all.
Oh and yeah that autosave/die is pretty darn annoying but i never smashed a controller, mouse of kb because of it

Anytime I forget to save. Get through a series of tough fights, on a roll and then I die. And I have to redo it all again. Sometimes it's almost an hour's worth. DA:O happened a lot.

Not mine, but the classic: "Vurtne 60-66 Mage PvP by Vurtne" from 6:30 onwards.
I'm too lazy to really rage myself

When i used to play street legal raacing and i crashed my car bad one day so i just smashed the palmrest.
The computer froze and the hard drive broke. It would make clicking noises like its jammed and wont boot.

I think Idra is like the spokes model for nerd rage.
Watching all the pro Starcraft 2 players he is pretty much the only one that rages and constantly never GG's when he loses.
Its like a pro sport there is supposed to be a certain amount of etiquette and sportsmanship especially in professional and tournament play.
Ugh, yeah I just played a 2v2 earlier and we both sent a scout. I scouted the protoss and he scouted the zerg, the zerg did a 7 pool and he (my team mate) was right there and saw the lings run out and he said nothing and I was a bit too occupied to notice so then I have 6 lings rush in just as im about to start my first zealot and get owned, I didnt rage but had to quit playing because I was so disappointed by my team mate :/ -
I have a lot of them.. usually when playing multi-players, like COD... when i get owned. Fortunately, my last one was quite a few weeks ago..

When I was playing league of legends and a kid adamantly believed that global warming could not possibly be true and kept going on and on about how people who "believe" in global warming are just "mindless fools who believe whatever the media says."

My biggest nerd rage was when I was playing MW2 on PS3. Was at 24 kills, and needed one more. Out of ammo, I continue running. I meet a guy, he starts shooting at me, I knife him, and he kills me. I see the killcam, and it doesn't appear that I knifed him. I went rage mode. ._.
