I have an ASUS Zenbook UX303UB, i7, 12 gb ram, Windows 10 (64 bit). The laptop has both a GT940M and a HD Graphics 520. Under Device Manager, both Display Adapters indicate that they are working. Under the NVIDIA control panel, in the Manage 3D settings, "High Performance NVIDIA Processor" is set as the Preferred Graphics Processor. I have also looked at DXDIAG and the Graphics 520 card is the only one showing although I understand that the NVIDIA card would not normally show up in DXDIAG.

However, when I look at the icon for NVIDIA in my task bar, I see "GeForce 940M (inactive). When I try to run some games that are not pushing the limit, they either fail to run or run very slowly. Is there a way to tell which graphics card is being used or to verify that the GTX940M is working? I am using the OEM drivers and have not updated drivers.

Thanks for any hints or ideas.

You can open hwinfo, run a 3d intensive game, and see if the GT940M have raised usage %.

This issue of weird hardware reading is common with Optimus enabled machines.

Thank you for your response. I have downloaded and installed HWinfo. It appears that my GT940m is working. I am guessing that I can not compare the GT940M to an equivalent graphics card in a more powerful machine. In other words, the GT940M does not really appear to be a great graphics card to run games on my Zenbook. Not surprising since it is more my travel laptop than my primary computer.

right click the program your trying to run go to run with graphics select NVidia high powered or whatever it says, the other thing you can do is open NVidia control panel and have it always use the 940m but u will kill your battery life ig you cant find the NVidia control panel reinstall the drivers should be down in the bottom corner

    Thank you for the response.

This may be a stupid question but when I right click the app, I do not see an option to select the graphics card to use. If I select "Properties", I am not seeing a choice there to select the specific graphic card there either.

Right click an open spot on your desktop. Select NVIDIA properties or icon... Left side of window that pops up select 3d settings.. At the top of the screen select preferred GPU as high performance GPU or Nvidia gpu
