i spoke with a freind who is a manager at best buy a few minutes ago and he said he called toshiba and they told him it was in fact ddr2 ram on the 8700gt in this system??? i thought when duran posted clocks vereyone said it was in fact ddr3.. he said toshiba swore to them it was ddr2 hae asked a few times and they said no its not ddr3.. wtf?? i will not buy this one if it really is ddr2. they told him the card was overclocked with ddr2 ram on it??? doesnt make sense.. anyone know any more??
-
Even Toshiba's own spec sheet says ddr2
-
yes but when someone here checked it the clocks showed it as ddr3.. my freind spoke directly with the toshiba rep and he swears they put ddr2 in that system
-
did that person prove what laptop he had and /w screenshots? I remember reading a post like that but it was never confirmed.
-
he said it showed 625/700 if i remember right which should be ddr3..no he didnt post a shot of that though.. but everyone here swears there is no such thing as a 8700gt with ddr2 ram?? the rep from toshiba i figure would know what they in the system??? and my freidn said this guy was saying he was 100% positive it was ddr2 NOT ddr3.. the rep said he's been geting a ton of calls on this and told my freind he confirmed it with toshiba tech/engineering dept.. so i dont know who to believe. they dont have one on display at my best buy so if i go buy one id be doing it blind, and if i try to return it and say it doesnt have ddr3 ram they said there is a restocking fee once its opened so im trying to find someone else who can actually confirm this..
-
i just got off the phone with him again, he says the rep told him the card its using is similar to the newer style 8700gt they are using in some of the the sli systems not the toshiba's they have 8600gt's? he said that has ddr2 on some of those now??
-
also according tothe invidia web site it states 625/800 and duran stated 625/700??? man i need an answer fast.. i was thinking about buying one of these today
-
OMG, now S9359 model only $2099!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1187848701&sr=8-2 -
lol the only other store near me has one in stock.. so id have o get there as soon as they open. my freind who gave me this info said they sold A BUNCH of them yesterday.. he thinks like 6-10 of them. and they are out of stock.. and they are not issueing rainchecks on the price..
-
well everything i found said it only comes in DDR3, but then again im only going on what other people posted in forums :/
-
yeah my freind told the toshiba rep this and he claims this is a different card?? i dont know what to think...
-
cant you go there in the morning and run Sandra on it before you buy it?
-
no i cant open it up and set it up... id have to buy it and then play with it
-
well if their advertising it with GDDR3 and it turns out its not its misleading advertisement they have to let you return it...right? just get it in writing from the salesguy that its DDR3 before you buy it lol
ps.: your not going to sleep tonight are you -
no thats the problem toshiba and best buy both advertise it as ddr2 NOT ddr3.. so if i bought it and tried to return it because of that i may get charged the restocking fees.. my freind said he could try to help me but he doesnt work at the store that has the unit so he said id have to return it to him and his store is almost 2 hours from my house... a long drive to return it.. but that would be the only way id be gauranteed not to pay the restock fee
-
well bestbuy site is advertising it as GDDR3
Model: X205-S9349
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...ellite+x205+SLI&type=product&id=1180743303867
i say print that page out you should be good -
thats the wrong model...
this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...=x205&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1186008219932 -
from toshiba's web site here: http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/rdet.jsp?poid=394305&seg=HHO
and here: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/...BV_EngineID=cccfaddmdmihhhecgfkceghdgngdgnj.0
and as i said duram said his clocks were 625/700 but nvidia site states hey should be 625/800?? just trying to get a definate answer here... help??
for the x205 ---49 version in details it states:
Graphics11
• PCI-Express™ x16 graphics subsystem, featuring:
o NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8700M GT with 256MB DDR3 discrete
graphics memory, plus up to 255MB dynamically allocated shared
graphics memory using NVIDIA® TurboCache™ technology.12
o Total available shared graphics memory 767MB
for the x205 ---59 model is states:
• PCI-Express™ x16 graphics subsystem, featuring:
o NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8700M GT with 512MB DDR3 discrete
graphics memory, plus up to 255MB dynamically allocated shared
graphics memory using NVIDIA® TurboCache™ technology.13
o Total available shared graphics memory 767MB
but for the best buy model it says:
Graphics9
• PCI-Express™ x16 graphics subsystem, featuring:
o NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8700M GT, 256MB GDDR2 discrete
graphics memory, plus up to 255MB dynamically allocated
shared graphics memory using NVIDIA® TurboCache™
technology.
• Total Available Graphics memory 511MB
also why the difference in total shared memory available? the cheaper best buy one says 511mb where as the better 49 and 59 models say 767mb shared available?? just doesnt make sense..
im sure maybe the rep could have been wrong but i would have been suprised if someone direct from toshiba was wrong but its always possible.. i know this was discussed but i am wondering if that could have somehow been wrong.. -
anyone have any ideas?? help...

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Ah makes sense the toshiba was so cheap. Thats why I made that thread I knew even with the lower end processor that laptop was still too cheap. If its ddr2 ram then it makes sense.
Zfactor the shared memory virtually means little to nohting in most gaming situations so just ignore it. -
okay i called toshiba. they said this card (they claim he ws not completly positive) runs at 700mhz on the memory clock. this is overclocked. they said their normal 8700gt runs at 810 on the memory side instead of the 700. not sure how true this it either i wish i could get a straight answer. im looking for nvidia contact info now
-
i have the toshiba Model: X205-S9349
it definitely has ddr3
the model you are looking at is cheaper - thus the ddr2 ....
i confirmed this with bestbuy before buying my x205..
anyways - the toshiba x205-s9349 is very nice with the 8700m gt ddr3 ... i haven't had really any trouble with any games as of yet. -
more info how did you confirm this please?? let me know
-
i talked to the sales rep at best buy - i know they aren't the smartest but this guy seemed to have a handle on things - we compared the two models of toshibas (both of them are running at my bestbuy) and found the ddr2 and ddr3 difference between models. the ddr3 performed better.
-
btw, if you can excuse the size of the laptop (because of the video card) then i would recommend it fully. i love it and have spent many hours of gaming
it feels nice to have the 8700m GT. it is also the COOLEST laptop i have ever ran - it never goes about 65 C !!! no matter how long i play on it.
-
could the differences you found be from one having 256mb of vram and the other having 512 of vram both being dedicated?
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
No the difference is from the higher clocks of the gddr3.
-
-
arghh i think ill just get a clevo.. this is driving me nuts i really wanted another toshiba due to my great luck but for what the 49 model has in it nto worth it for me to spend the extra $$$ on it
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Well no gddr3 tends to be cooler and more power efficient. Gddr3 also allows for alot more overclocking. Like my c90s ddr2 8600 can overclock barely enough to match the gddr3 standards.

Does this screenshot work...

I don't think the 8700GT comes in a DDR2 model...
My x205 is stock at 700(x2), and that is DDR3.
It runs at up to 938(x2).
The boxes I saw at Best buy are identical to my purchased unit... so unless there is a special unit they sell to Best Buy, they are simply reselling the basic x205 unit which is DDR3. -
I posted the screenshot up above....so enjoy I'm ordering a processor from newegg to get better performance
I'm going to post a review later this week while I test a variety of games and how they hold up....I've tested World in Conflict, Bioshock, Medieval Total War II, and Rainbow Six Vegas, which all those games are hardware strenous....I'll let you guys know how it goes....so far it's a good experience with stock settings except WiC has poor fps but DX10 is known to be slow but every other game is playable at the max resolution for the rundown. I'm trying to overclock with the 163.71 drivers and 2.03 Rivatuner but it's not working. But this laptop is a good buy...for people who can't wait.
-
try using a different version of riva - the latest one is 2.05
-
so is it 100% safe to say the best buy version is in fact ddr3?? i mean no doubt about it.. ??
-
check out bb's return policy and then go ahead and get it if the returns are reasonable.. .
-
-
the told me there was a restocking fee..thats why i want to be sure..
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
The 160 drivers don't allow overclocking, you'll have to modify your gpus bios if you really want to overclock.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=160237 -
-
please run the benchmarks and let me know please. i guess ill go off of those
-
For now, I'll give you the benchmarks of the average FPS of the games I've had tried. All games at 1280x768 except for bioshock.
Bioshock runs pretty smooth at a steady 45 fps maxed
Rainbow Six Vegas 50-55 fps maxed with v sync off
World in Conflict 30 average, now if a nuke hits it dips down drastically to 10-12 unless you get away... High settings except world long distance is medium
Medieval Total War, roughly 40-50 in battles, if the battles are huge then you're looking at a drop. the CPU can only take so much. aa off.
I will run benchmarks specifically with every detail later. -
the processor in that laptop sucks, thats the downside of it
-
does anyone feel the 256 vram vs the 512 vram on the 8700gt will make any real world differences..
if i bought one id upgrade the cpu.. i have a t7500 sitting here waiting -

The detailed spec sheet for the model you were thinking about getting at Best Buy is apparently missing from the website:
http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/rdet.jsp?poid=394305&seg=HHO
You could call Toshiba directly at 1-800-TOSHIBA and ask them to verify, but you could always end up with one of their reps that has no clue and will just read you the same specs as what is posted on the website.
You can find Nvidia's contact information here:

thats the page for the toshiba tech sheet.. -
zfactor, man...u can't be that indecisive
just go ahead and get, like i said, u won't regret it...it was probably a typo to begin with
-
wow this is becoming a problem
Well... now we know why its soo cheap at best buy
about the new toshiba best buy x205
