I just purchased medieval II total war gold edition and I would like to know if it is possible to play that game through steam. The reason I ask is I really hate using the DVDs to play the game since my DVD/CD ROM won't work half the time with the medieval II DVDs.
I really want to play the game without DVDs and I am trying to avoid using cracked exe files.

unless you bought the game through steam then no there is no way. sorry

Ok now my DVD rom will not read the game at all. The DVD will spin at full speed and the only way to stop it is to manually turn off the computer.
I feel like game developers are forcing me to resort to pirated software just so I can play a legit version of a game. It's funny because that's what most of them complain about. -
The guide to run games from a hard drive is explained in my guide here:

hope this helped! -
Try activating your retail cd key in steam, it might take it, it might not.
I have purchased games in a shop and activated them in steam before personally, but they were valve games. I'm not sure about 3rd party games bought retail. -
Maybe your DVD drive is busted. Mine was, I had to get a technician over to replace it.
Anyway you should get a No-CD crack. They are perfectly legal as long as you own the original software. Go over to GameCopyWorld, it's the first hit on google if you search for no-cd.
EDIT: Try to stick with GCW, other websites might be dodgy. -
you probably dont have to turn off your entire computer to get the unresponsive cd out of the drive. just get a paperclip, or something similar, and poke it in the little hole above the button to open/close the drive. then the cd should popout if it likes it or not

the activation didn't work so it's probably only valve games
I tried the paperclip but it didn't seem to work. Maybe it needed more force but I didn't want to try.
Yea the problem may be my DVD drive but it works fine with all other DVDs so I am not sure yet. I am sure I can get Sager to send me another one so I can install it myself.
Thanks for all the help -
Quick question, If I buy the orange box I would be able to activate it on steam and play w/o the CD's right?

Try using a NO-CD crack. It's perfectly legal as long as you own the game.
