I just got my laptop fixed(changed heatsink) because the gpu was going 105C in atitool. but before I sent it in I had atitool running for about an hour on 105C and Im just wondering if this might give me any issues later because I am still on the same card. It works fine so far, Im just curious.

Probably everything will be ok. but thats hot u sure it was that hot? maybe the sensors are faulty or somethng, if nothing happened in that hour is not gonna happen now, besides ati doesnt have the bad soldering process that some nvidia do, so heat cicle shouldnt be that big of a problem. i wouldnt worry about it, but if i can, and i have the chance, i would replace it, just for peace of mind xD. Chips are the kind of of things that either work, or doesnt work at all! those temps are not weird in some high end cards today...

105C is outrageous, but if the card works, so be it. I would not be surprised if the GPU artifacts in the future though. Memory may be damaged... 100-110C is the typical kill point for GPUs. A computer will usualy shut itself off in that case to save it from being fried altogether.

not a good temp at all.
make sure to clean out the vents and fans monthly with compressed air
and make sure to not be blocking the bottom of the notebook
.... ONLY use on clean, hard, flat surface
.... NEVER on soft surfaces (laps, beds, couches, pillows, etc) -

I found out the hardway my 9800M GS Throttles down at 110C. Forgot to plug the fan back in on the 3.5th time i was working on it.

the effects?
why not put a pan on it and fry some eggs, save some gas from the cooker -
105C really bad!
If you really run out of natural gas in your house. You can try your graphic card cooker.
-----No Offence----
Reduce your GPU voltage.
Clean your fan.
Make sure your heatsink compile neatly.
Get latest forceware of your graphic card. -
-
first off nothing will happen to it but it might not last its expected life span......the more wear the more tear...
-
If you're trying to intentionally wear out your GPU while you're still under warranty, you should think carefully since if it's proven that you've deliberately fried your GPU in hopes of a warranty replacement the boot may well be on the other foot.

Reducing GPU voltage requires a lot more work such as hard mod to the hardware or soft mod to the BIOS. Your best bet is cleaning the vents and reapplying a thermal paste/pad to it.

right now its running no higher than 59 with intense gaming. Ive had it for 2 months since.(I know I said I just got it back, that was a mistake). Its been running fine since. I dunno, I hate these situations... its a gateway 7805u and it might not have been an hour. I dont really remember, it could have also been false readings but would replacing the heatsink have fixed false readings or is the thermometer somewhere else?

after effects of gpu running 105C for 1hr?
