    What is the best/fastest GPU I can put in the alienware M17x R4 without major mods, and a simple downloadable bios if needed. I'm not a programmer.

    You must make sure you are running the latest unlocked BIOS and pure UEFI windows installation.

    These cards don't need any hardware mods and will fit right in.

    The gtx 1070 is a little bit tricky.
    There is two types, the MSI gtx 1070 which requires case modding do to size.
    Then there is the Eurocom version which have a standard size and fit with no problem.

    The difference between the two is performance.
    Only the MSI one, is able to run alone without Nvidia Optimus, but it requires the 120hz screen to do so. This also make it VR compatible.
    Eurocom only works in Optimus therefore VR cannot work.

    Gtx 980m works without any problem, you only need to mod the Nvidia driver.
