am i a nerd for playing world of warcraft

some coworkers made fun of me today /sigh

 

If you play it every single hour that you're not at work or asleep, then yes you might be called a nerd and made fun of. If WOW is your first choice over going out, or hanging out with friends then yes you're a nerd and dont be surprised if you're made fun of.

But if this is just a hobby, and doesn't interfere with your social life, then their just being childish. Call them out on the stuff they like to do and say it's the same thing as you playing WOW.

Everyone has their entertainment. Playing videogames isn't worse than watching American Idol or reading People magazine, in my opinion. But moderation is always a good idea. Try to balance it with other, "real world" activities not in front of the computer (sports, clubs, volunteering, etc.)

No, playing WoW doesn't automatically make you a nerd.
And being a nerd isn't automatically a bad thing.

Get over it. I'm going to guess that it isn't the worst thing people are going to call you in your life.

 

I don't care what people think, just be who you are

If gaming is your form of entertainment then thats just fine.

 

For playing WoW, you are not a nerd....
If you play it 10 hours a day, everyday, to a point of negating any form of social life...you bet you ass you are...

nah i play like 3-4 hours a night. ( i work 8-5 mon-fri).

 

Besides playing games for 3-4 hours, do you go out with friends to have fun? Or is playing WoW after work all you do?

Otherwise, what's wrong with playing video games. I heard that the average video gamer is 30. =\

Seriously though, your co-workers probably don't understand the true concept of "gaming" and having bleeding edge performance and really rad looking setups.

Plus you can blow their minds with technologic jargon.

i never understood the massive investment of time needed for WOW. but one of my football buddies made some money selling his characters, so take it for what you will. does that make him a "jerd" or "nock" (jock + nerd)?

 

I never understood it either. I played the trial for a little bit, and everyone made it sound like I'd be hooked in no time. I was discouraged in no time. All I did was run around killing wolves for hours... loads of fun.

 

I think you sig name makes you a nerd Orochimaru is a naruto character right! only reason I know that is because I watch that with my nerdy brother to so you could also call me a nerd to some degree. I have a hot tip for you, don't tell them anything! and minimise your gaming, my brother plays 8 hours a day easily if not more, watches naruto and browses numerous gutters of the internet and still passes university but never goes out or anything.

I wouldn't worry about you "mates" at work each to their own. just don't tell them what you do or make something up like "I deleted it" problem solved they get of your back and you can keep playing!

just come up for air every now and again, that games more addictive than crack!

 

Just got back to the res (12:50am)...and i feel I have to add another comment on this topic, which is actually quite interesting if you think deeply about it.

What is the definition of a nerd though...Just because a group of friends and I went to an arcade/pool hall instead of getting hammered at a frat party makes us nerds? Just because we played Dance Dance Revolution ( ) for 30 minutes instead of spending those 30 minutes stumbling around drunk on campus trying to find the dorm (don't ask how many people I see doing that) makes us nerds?

stop caring what people think ffs. who cares if your coworkers laugh at you , who knows what kind of strange hobbies they have.

 

i read that robin williams is an avid WoW player. Funny guy, he apparently named his daughter Zelda after the nintendo series too. Who woulda guessed.
