So when i game, my laptop runs at like 75-80 degrees Celsius and I was wondering if that was too hot. I have a hp pavilion dv6tqe and what is the max temperature my laptop can be for extended periods of time?

    your temp. seems within range.
mine, during gaming (The Witcher 2), CPU gets (77-81 C), GPU (71 C) with CoolSense setting to coolest mode.
    if I use performance mode CPU reaches (88-91 C), GPU (78 C).

So, I always use coolest mode during gaming.
Generally temp. above 90 C should be alarming

Usually your laptop will shut down to prevent damage @ ca. 90C. On some laptops you may change this value in BIOS.

TjMax for most Sandy Bridge procs (basically the temperature at which the CPU starts to take steps to protect itself from heat) is 100C, as far as I know. 80C is an acceptable number under heavy load. If it concerns you, get a good cooling pad, that will lower your temps by a couple of degrees.

80C is completely normal, and is nothing you should pay attention to, at all.
