Could be too high clocks. Artifacts are GPU errors seen on a screen. Dots, lines, textures, teared pics etc. They are usually a result from errors in the GPU due to high temps, overclocking etc... Many GPUs (graphic processiong units - graphic card core) can reset in a case of an error. That is why you get that message. On ATI it is called VPU recover.

It can be also an unstable driver. Try newer version - see what happens.

Turn off any power management on your graphic card (like Powerplay on ATI).

    I hope this helps,

    Ivan

Same thing happened to me on my G1s. However, after 3dmark crashed, I had a BSOD and computer rebooted.

After the reboot, my 3dmark scores were drastically lowered. Not sure what happened there...but here is the pattern in 3dmark scores...

    Using 169.01 drivers
    Stock 475/700 - 3950
    OC 525/725 - 4213
    OC 575/775 - 4495
    OC 580/780 - Crash
    OC 575/775 - 4224
    OC 525/725 - 3912
    Stock 475/700 - 3815
    Stock 475/700 - 3620
    Stock 475/700 - 3820

I'm leaving it at stock for now. I wonder if I need to reinstall the drivers. I was able to play Quake Wars on 575/775 for good hour with no artifacts and 96C GPU temps.

You can use RivaTuner to check temps or nTune.

Yea. But what I've gathered from the forums, its actually somewhat acceptable from Asus G1s. I just ordered a Zalman cooler for my notebook and turned OC back to stock. I don't wish to fry a new notebook..lol.
