for more of a budget though. im looking to get a xps m1530 which comes with 8600m and the only other card ive seen is the 8800gtx but i dont want to drop 500 bucks to upgrade to that from alienware. should i go ahead and get the laptop now or are there going to be any cards introduced in near future?

If you're ready to wait a couple of months, the Clevo M860TU with a 8800M GTX in a 15.4" form factor should be out by then.... :) And you can expect it to be reasonably priced, atleast compared to the Alienware m15x..

If you need it now get it. Anytime is a bad time to buy a notebook. If you really want to save money (you lose a little bit of performance) get the Dell Vostro 1500 with the ddr2 8600gt

The 9 series is just beginning to roll out. Nothing seems to ground breaking on the desktop front but improvements are always welcome. If you are needing a laptop I wouldn't hold off; but if you can wait you'll always end up with something better.

lol but is it going to be more affordable? i dont mind getting a 8600m now but i figured if something would be available soon instead i wouldnt mind waiting. and any idea if dell would be offering it(we get a discount with them)?

edit: yeah i was wondering if mobile versions of the desktop9 series would be coming out as well.

I believe Dell has some contracts that gaurantee them new parts earlier than most other manufacturers.

And yes, at Cebit this month, several laptops included the new 9600 mobile GPU from Nvidia. I'm sure we'll be seeing new 9600 laptops very soon.

the 9 series in laptops won't be out until Summer time. Don't expect them in April. It will be June/July when they are first seen in notebooks.

What would those be though? The 9500GS is already in notebooks, but it's just an 8600GT. Ditto for I think it's called the 9650GS or something like that? (It's just an 8700GT...which again is just an 8600 part.)

The desktop 9600GT basically became the mobile 8800GTS, so...

Hell, with a 15' laptop, you should be able to run SLI 40x with no problem!! I wouldn't worry. :)
