hi
empire total war has just been released and i was sondering wether you guys have tried it.
i am using an hp9740us with a 1.66 dual core and 8600m gs o/c'ed
im thinking that maybe i cant play this game but would love to here you thoughts bout it...
might just force me to upgrade my lappy
-
Says March 4th on Steam...?
-
-
meh, i tried the demo... i diddn't like it too much. I still like Rome better xD
-
-
i also heard in gamespot forums the demo had really slow battles
wondering if its the same for the final version
ign showed gameplay n their video review and it looked ginda sluggish and that was already on a desktop 2.66ghz quad and a 8800gtx
i wonder if this will be even playable on a laptop aside from the asus w90 -
Yeah I've played the demo, and I had to speed everything up just to make it worth while. Battles do seem to take forever. We'll have to see how the full game goes
-
The demo was apparently realy bad compared to the real game. Let's hope the real game is much better.
Its been getting some really good reviews so far. -
Comes out this Thursday, can't wait!
-
ye i hope we can play it in our lappies too
-
-
-
Nah i'm almost sure he was reffering to the pace of the game... Speed things up, that doesn't sound like reffering to framerates...
-
Medieval II's demo played poorly as well I thought. March 3rd is when it hits retail according to IGN and Game Informer.
-
-
The game pace is great and much more realistic. After all 18th century battles wasn´t done in a pace
-
just anyone knows where to get it real cheap?
-
It is normal that my framerate in sea battle is around 60, but land battles only get 20~30???
Oh and BTW... Anyone knows why the Demo won't let me go over Medium detail? Everything above that is greyed out... -

Do I have any hope of running this on a 8400GT?
-
-
I'm trying to decide whether to get Empire or just get Medieval II. I've tried both demos and both are quite similar to me (I'm more used to faster paced RTS games like CoH). Medieval II will probably run better on my system anyways, no? Not to mention it is $20 vs $50 for Empire.
Thoughts? -
As for performance, other than absolutely HORRIBLE load times, my performance was just fine on my tablet (ATI 3200HD). Nothing spectacular, but by all means playable, so the 8600GS can definitely play it, and more than likely the 8400 will be fine too.
Sea battles actually faired better than land battles framerate wise, which surprised me.
The load times have actually kept me from purchasing it.... they were absolutely atrocious on the demo for me, as in several plus minutes.
EDIT: This is all based on the demo, and I can only hope better in the final version -
My framerates were also higher on the sea battles, which I thought was surprising since I think they look a lot better graphically than the land battles. -

Do you still have all the little men running around the deck and stuff on low detail? Most graphics cards can do water really well now, I especially like the water in Half Life 2 Episode 2.
-
i played the demo and i think the loading time is a major issue. it takes more than 5 minutes to get into a battle and 3 minutes to get out
-
Received the game this morning, very excited as I like many have spent months on the previous games. Installing now and will post how she responds on my system soon.
-
jayq i'm wondering, since you have a 8600m GT... Did you play the demo? Could you get High and Very High settings? I couldn't, they are greyed out... And with the game itself? You have all the options?
-
I read on eurogamer.com in an interview with creative assembly that the loading times are only that long in the demo. The demo code is very old and it has been seriously optimized for the release and it should load about 2-3 times as fast now.
-
Which I still play, but with the Roma Surrectum mod. -
2. I can only choose between low and medium settings (others are greyed out). At 1440x900, all options on medium I am getting an average 25fps. Plays fine to be honest.
Only dissapointing thing is that previous games alowed you to set the campaign and battle map resolutions independantly i.e. I would have the campaign set at 1440x900 and the battle map set lower at say 1280x800 but with higher settings. -
hmm, in the demo i can max everything except shadows and get about 25-30 fps with a stock 8800gts, did they improve the graphics in the final version?
-
i could play this in medium well with the laptop in my sig but iut is very cpu intensive and the lload times were about 3-4 mins for me
-
Just picked it up, posting while installing. Ryo I'll let you know, I have a 8800GT and we'll see on the performance increase.
-
I got it today from play.com
I got a dell m4400 precision with 4 gigs of ram and a Quadro FX770. I haven't yet got to a land battle, but the sea battles are pretty decent in speed but what is annoying me is how long it takes to load when you end your turn and the cpu faction do theirs. However this is probably due my harddrive needs fragging and my 3d setting's are still on the same for CAD applications.
I tell you how it improves when i defrag and when i change the settings -

Hmm sounds as though they may need to go through and find an easier way to manage naval battles and do some optimizations to fix load times, if they did that though they would probably get 10/10 reviews and be a bit too awesome.

i was reading review this game actually got some phenomenal reviews so maybe this game has alot more to offer then the demo could really show.
I enjoyed the Demo though. -
yeah and the reviews i read never mentioned long load times...
-
downloading it from steam right now! At 19%...but I guess the server's are all really bogged down with everyone downloading it all at the same time
-
I'd love to see everyone's comments here. User reviews so far seem to be from fans of the series and love it, or hate Steam so give it a 2.0 rating.
I never put much effort into earlier Total War series, but the premise always looked fun and interesting. From the previews and early release reviews I've read so far it gets a lot of praise. But I'm not sure I'm willing to part with $50 yet.
Also, are the extra units worth the $20 price increase (Elite Units)?
Anyone buy the boxed game? Does it have any goodies in it that make it worth the extra money? Or is it just a senseless pamphlet like most other games come with?
I'll probably buy the game because I'm a sucker for games with good reviews, and am always open to new genres and ideas. I've been happily surprised in the past. Unfortunately, I've had a lot more turds than gems, but those gems make it worth trying again and again! -
I want it
