you wont get banned the only person that can see your skin is only yourself
fpsbanana.com is a legit place to get nice skins -
as far i as i know u can use them on public servers with custom skin support but u cant use them in clan wars and stuff like that...
lots of guys on brits' servers were using them when i was playing couple of months ago... -
They are fine to use. The issue with them is that sometimes they can be cheap. For example: A sniper scope that doesn't limit visibility/bright colors for the teams so you can see them easily. Most of the time, however, people don't know that you're using them.

You will immediately be imprisoned after installing skins
-
it depends on the server..
YOU CAN NOT use it in competitive leagues such as CAL, TWL, OGL , or CEVO or even during scrimmages -
Skins are only on the clients side. Unless it is done via the server.
Also higher quality skins will eat up some performance. -
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
yeah skins are fine. only you can see the skin, unless the other players have them as well and you can't play with skins in CAL its illegal. So that would only be the time that skins are consider illegal.

There are 2 types of skins available for CS:S.
The first type is only client-side. All skins MUST have the same shape as the skin that it's replacing. This is why it's impossible to find a female client-side skin, because they look too much like guys and it's ugly.
The second time is server-side. You can basically look like anything you want. From a pretty female to Darth-Vader to a sofa. Your hitboxes are changed too, so female characters may be harder to hit as they are slimmer.

The entire CT team is female. Awesome. -
Skins are legal because they are controlled by the server. As are game scripts.
What I mean by this is that if the server does not allow certain types of skins, they only have to create a whitelist like my server has. "Most" server hosts do not know what a whitelist is, nor how to limit skins so any you download should work in about 90% of CS:S servers. The bad part about servers that do not use a whitelist is that EVERY skin is allowed by default, which means even skins for the walls of levels that allow you to see through them, and you can not, nor will ever get banned for them because they are not considered a hack, only a skin. It's something that more people than you might want to believe actually use in CS:S and will never get VAC banned for.
However, if you joined a server like mine, you are allowed to use custom HUD's, sounds, and weapon skins, but not player skins, or skins for the map (walls, floors, etc.) Also, you'll want to make sure that any scrim server you play on uses the console command SV_Pure 2 to force all files to come from steam so no skins are allowed and it's an even match. Lastly, don't worry about needing to delete your skins for servers that use a whitelist with SV_pure because the server will force your game to use the default skins on 99% of servers with sv_pure enabled.
are cs:s skins legal?
