As far as I knw the last year's 6630m has higher pipelines than the ft 640 le. Otherwise the 640 is faster in everything else as well as 2gb instead of 1 on the 6630. However I learn tht the 640 only scores 5.9 in windows experience index, whereas the 6630m scores 6.7. Do you think the 6630m is e 6630 still performs better than the 640 or are they about the same?

If the 640M LE is a Fermi version, it's almost the same performance. If it's Kepler, it's markedly faster.

that actually depends on the model that we are talking about, it can be kepler and it can be fermi.

the kepler variant is faster. and so far can be found only on the vaio S13/S15

    40nm 640M LE is a rebranded GT555M it is a lot faster than 6630M.
28nm 640M LE is a Kepler and is a bit stronger than 40nm 640M (+20%ish maybe) and is around 60% faster than 6630M.

i think OP is talking about the GPUs in SONY VAIO S line (the 2011 model uses 6630m and the 2012 model uses 640m LE); hence my answer.

Huh, are you trying to trick us? :) It says 6650M and its overclocked.
6630M runs at 485MHz/800MHz, yours is running at 690MHz/1190MHz.

I was always confused why it said 6650M, it is in fact a 6630M in a Vostro 3450. :) However, my stock results were better than the 890 you posted, somewhere around 1000. I'll see if I can find the bench.

Regardless, the 640M in the SA is Kepler and faster.

The overclock would go higher if I had a bigger PSU, but I I draw too much power with it at that sometimes. Never tops 70C. :)

So is the 640LE in the new SV a kepler or fermi? This is also one of my laptop options. Will 640LE be faster than 6770?

The 640 LE Kepler will be about on par with a 6770M, possibly faster. We don't have concrete benches of it yet.

If this review is to be trusted, the Kepler 640MLE 3DMark 11 GPU score can go quite a bit higher, at 2152. Search the page for 3Dmark and click the picture link, or cheat by clicking here. What's your source on the 1590 score?

There's also a Vantage GPU score, but I must be looking at the wrong number, because I'm reading 21154???

Just to chime in a little late here, the 640LE in my VAIO S15 scores 6.8 in both graphics categories according to the Windows Experience Index, but the overall score is 5.9 thanks to the 5400 RPM drive.

Thanks for the info, just what I need to know. Yea I would highly recommend to get rid of the HDD and upgrade to an SSD. Its bottle-necking the entire system.

Could you also share what's the CPU score?

    I'm running the 3520M i7 dual core:

    Processor 7.2
    Memory 7.5
    Desktop 6.8
    3D 6.8
Disk 5.9 (now increased to 7.7 with M4 256Gb SSD, and yes it's a joy to use)

The 3612QM quad-core version also comes with a 2GB 640LE (CTO custom build, not available in stores) and scores 7.5 Processor, and 7.6 RAM, and 6.8 in Graphics (WEI testing isn't pushing it enough for the extra VRAM to be useful).
