    Im thinking about buying an acer laptop with the 3470 xt with 512 mb ram
    Will it work with for Solidworks and Pro engineer?

    It will work, but you should consider a professional video card instead, such as a nVidia Quadro or ATI FireGL. Even a low end one would be a lot better due to it's optimizations for those programs.
