    5850 has GDDR5, 5830 has GDDR3.

    Substantially lower, by about 40%

    the 5850 should own the 5830.. in fact , if you have some envolope , you can OC the the 5850 to a 5870 and really play an game on full HD res which high-max settings.

    Well... there are some three variants of the HD5850m. Two with GDDR3 (1GB and 2GB), then one HD5850m with GDDR5.

    The HD5830m is always shipping with GDDR3.

    HOWEVER, the HD5850m is always clocked higher than the HD5830m, in any case.

    How high are you able to overclock the 5850 in your E17?

    The 5830 remains pretty stable for me up to around 550MHz core / 1150 MHz memory. When running Civ5, however, it crashes at 550/1150.
