Hi.
I love battlefield 2 and 2142 , but i keep getting killed easy, do experts have special joypads or special keyboards.
You see soldiers jumping along the street, because it is harder to shoot them, are they just using a keyboard and mouse.
How do i get better!!
thanks
John.

i can answer your first question- the best players are just using keyboard & mouse.

They must be killing there keyboard! , I use to kill a joypad or joystick in a week when i was younger!

It is just a keyboard and mouse. I have tried using my N52te and it is nice, but nowhere near enough keys that BF2 requires to play well (omg where is my parachute).
Alot of people who fly the planes and helicopters use joysticks. The rest of us just dive bomb them into the ground.
This game takes practice, the first 2 months I played this game I would be lucky to kill 1 person per map.
Here are some of my recommendations to help you get some kills.
-Do Infantry only Maps, skilled people in vehicles will destroy you
-Get the 2nd unlock for the Medic: G36E (a.k.a n00b tube) <- easiest gun to shoot
-Toss grenades at people who just died, 30 medics are always jumping at corpses
-Never stand still! Motionless targets are dead targets.
-Toss medpacks everywhere, they keep you alive and give you lots of points.
-Learn the maps
Your aim and quickness will improve over time, but the above recommendations will help you score more per map. -

He, great info, thanks

lol, the parachute is soooo handy!
Yeah, just practice. Took me months before i got the hang of it. I literally stood behind a guy, unloaded a mag and he was still there. Now i'm getting 40+ kills a match.

How would you be killing your keyboard? It's just basic WSAD setup. No need to pound your keyboard.
I use mouse/keyboard and have decent stats. I much prefer a twist joystick for flying, although if you can master the mouse/keyboard, you can do some pretty spectacular stunts that I haven't been able to master yet.
Problem is that getting practice in an aircraft is difficult since there's a limited few, and you have your aircraft whores who never give it up.
However, RSChauby's points are to be well taken. Play only on servers that use one or two maps. Get to know the maps and you'll do much better. Eventually you'll play on most of them and be decent on them. I'm best with infantry only maps, but vehicle maps can be fun too. Just don't like that half the time you're a sitting duck because you can't get a vehicle.
As BF2 has matured, so have their veteran players. Air superiority is a huge balance issue in this game. Any ground vehicles can be pounded to dust repeatedly once one team gets air supriority.
One thing that would have evened the odds is a shoulder mounted Stinger missile and ability to switch packs at a supply crate. But that's neither here nor there.
On the BF2 note, it looks like there will be one more patch. Mainly to address server crash issues, but hoping for widescreen support (they did with BF2142) and the two items I mentioned above. -
I can shoot someone in the head with a sniper rifle five times from 100 yards away with no effect, and they just take one shot from their machine gun and it kills me instantly.
But either way, it's still fun. Just have to deal with some of these idiosyncracies. -

just messing with you, but if you were playing 2142 the lmgs get more accurate the more you shoot
i think its just cuz 2142 was my first fps (except for like, halo but thats console and doesnt count) i cant get into bf2. none of the guns except for the sniper rifle seem to work well for me, and that gets boring sometimes. i also cant get used to going prone, as in 2142 the only times you should really use prone is to hide/reload and only for a second at that
if you want someone to revive you on some infantry maps add me in game- vicariouscheze -

Keyboard + Mouse is the way to go for persision, if you want fun wiimote is the way to go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOUWFDrRaHc
Thats one of the FPS scripts in action, makes the game play similar to how metroid prime plays on the wii. -
Sweet YouTube video. That looks reasonable. Wonder if you can get all the keys you need on the Wiimote?

Not only is accuracy an issue with a gamepad, the lack of important controls due to scarcity of buttons is a huge issue too. What I like to do with BF2 is use my KB + M for on foot fighting and an XBox 360 gamepad for aircraft. Only problem is if I want to "quick chat" I got to take my hand off the gamepad real quick, which can get you killed.

You have the accelerometers, the IR, the tilt/roll sensors and so on.
I wrote FPS scripts like,
> Jerk the wiimote quickly up twards you to reload, roll the controller left/right to lean around corners. Press the Z key to shoot (and its a trigger so it feels like pulling a gun trigger) and also the controller will vibrate
Also glove pie is scripted so you can do combo keys, I have several in say my winamp script. Hold down a button and then all the other buttons have new functions is a simple example.
I had a great time playing assassins creed with the wiimote, made it feel much more "real"
Also be creative, one of the best things in my opinion and much easier to write a script for is my "hybrid fps" script.
You dont use the nuncheck and wiimote, instead you use the mouse and wiimote. So now you retian all of the controll of the mouse but have all the keyboard stuff withing a fingers reach. The dpad works like your w,s,a,d keys and you can just go to town from there setting up the controls you would like.
UT3 is fun like this, my mouse is the primary fire, while my wiimote z key is my secondary fire. So it feels like you have a gun in each hand, of course I keep the quick pull of the wiimote as reload and I use the A button as a combo button so when held down my dpad switches thru weapons.
Infact this is the best way to play fps IMO if you want to use the wiimote and still be playing at a competitive level, the full wiimote + nunchuk setup is hella fun, and with practice you can be very good at it, but the mouse will still win in the end I think.
Edit: Since I saw you on the EEE forums htwingnut you may find this interesting. I know the video is kinda lame at first but I got better near the end. Kinda showing off what can be done with the wiimote on the EEE. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fllo6F-UP5o
