Which notebook will run crysis the best. To me ITs obvious but maybe Im wrong.
Velocity Micro (High performance brand that not many people have heard of)
2.66GHz 667Mhz FSB 4mb cache Core 2 Duo E6700 (desktop cpu)
2GB... max memory is 2GB of RAM. That scares me
200GB 7200RPM HDD Faster Harddrive =![]()
15.4" 1680 x 1050 nice res
512MB 8600m gt
Bluetooth
Dell XPS m1530
2.16Ghz 667Mhz 2mb cache core 2 duo
3GB max memory is 6GB after a recent BIOS release
320GB 5400RPM HDD Bigger Harddrive =![]()
1280 x 800 low res![]()
256MB 8600m gt
Bluetooth
The XPS is a refurb BTW... Which doesnt matter on performance yes, I know

if u aren't on a very very tight budget, i would really try to find a m1530 with a 1440x900 screen.
correct me if i'm wrong but the 512MB 8600m GT is the DDR2 version. the 256MB DDR3 8600m GT has much better performance. there were also some guys on here reporting up to 8GB of RAM with the A11 bios. -
If the 8600m GT in the Velocity is DDR2 (which it likely is), the Dell XPS will likely outperform the Velocity Micro (in GPU bottlenecked games, which are most sans RTS) by ~10-20%.
In most other aspects, the Velocity should outperform the Dell.
The 2GB RAM could be cutting it close, especially for Vista, but should be fine, however I would check out some resolutions on 15.4" laptops to make sure you'd be fine with either end (I feel that 1440x900 would be perfect). -

It does not say whether its ddr2 or 3. im also assuming its ddr2

So, would i be better off with the micro or the XPS? I want a portable, fast, multimedia/gaming machine.

the dell wins. but neither will run crysis very well.

Im positive these computers will the game on medium. Im just trying to figure out which will do it better
-
For gaming Dell wins (better GPU by ~15%)
For multimedia Velocity wins (much better resolution, faster CPU)
Check their weights/dimensions for portability, but IIRC, the 1530 is very light for a 15.4" -
Isn't the 8600M the card that is known to fail under stress?
-
dude, just pick up gateway p-6860 fx from tigerdirect for $800 with 8800m and be happy.
-
older ones yes but i have a new xps with a perfectly fine card, its a good laptop overall
-
-
ah thats good to know, im assuming you know this from personal experience? i got the same laptop as you so if you can pull that off ill be happy.
-
An 8600 can't even handle 1680x1050, but at 1280x800 the strong desktop CPU will be able to carry a large chunk of the load. I'd go with the Velocity Micro.
-
1530 wins.
You won't need higher than 1280x800 when gaming on an 8600m GT, I'd much rather be able to turn other settings up and lets face it, an 8600m GT can't max a lot of games at 1280x800. -
aside from like brand new games from these year the 8600 can max out quite a few games at that low resolution, especially older ones.
-
Well, some games I have on my lappy at the moment and settings :
FarCry 2 : everything exept Shaders on High
Titan Quest : maxed out
Oblivion : maxed out (no AA)
Fallout 3 : everything on High
GRID : maxed out (AA/AF x4)
Spore : maxed out
Devil May Cry 4 : everything on High
Pure : maxed out
Fable : maxed out
All on 1280x800 resolution. -
The Velocity Micro, if I'm not wrong, sounds like a rebranded C90s, and didnt someone just came out with a mod to put a 9650M GT in it?
