for some reason when i play bf 2 after a while it freezes up and my whole pc freezes and the only way to stop it is to hold the power button or the game will just turn off and my desktop will come up. why is it doing this?

sounds like a software issue. Do you have updated drivers?

Have you done the WinXP Multi-Core update, it fixes lag and low gaming framerates.

If you have an anti-virus, turn if off to see if its a resource problem.

900-1024mb of RAM is good enough for BF2.

The drivers here are usually recommend to get top performance:

If you have issues, then going back to stock drivers is a good idea.

Follow the guide to see. As for the XP hotfix..

    To check on WinXP hotfixes:
    - go to Control Panel
    - Add/Remove Programs
    - check " Show Updates" on top
    - now scroll down to check on the particular hotfix, its in numerical order.

ok so i updated drivers and every thing but now when i run bf 2 it still freezes... for some reason it takes up 1.15 gig of ram to run... and i only have 1 gig and then 128 goes to my video card... how can i keep bf2 from using up all that ram? i also can run it on high settings and get about 40-90 fps

*EDIT* ok so i updated drivers.. and now no game starts out in 1200x800 and counter stirke 1.6 nolonger recognizes the fact that i should beable to change my resolution to 1200x800 and only stays in 640x480... so i dont know what the problem is but im going to roll back my drivers so i can acctually do things

I used to get that problem too with my Go7400, in BF2 once something big like an arty strike or something hit the screen, it just locked up and I had to pull out the battery and unplug mains. I switched to different set of drivers, one of the ones in the 80 series, and it solved it.
