Is there a way to get Battlefield 2 to display at 1680x1050? That's not an option in the game but I wonder if there is a way around that?

right click on the icon, go to the target line and add "+szx 1680 +szy 1050"
save it..then use that icon (you can only use that icon since it has the hack applied to it) when you play..also note..the screen is stretched to fit the screen, it is not a native resolution.everything will be a fullscreen stretched to widescreen (still looks good IMO). also, since it is not true widescreen, your FoV does not increase, it stays the same.
hope this helps

Thanks...but I still screwed things up. I already had some stuff at the end of the target. Here's what I have now:
Do I replace everything after the 'BF2.exe' with the widescreen tag you mentioned above? -
Nevermind...I got it. Thanks again.
I have everything set to medium with AA off...should I expect better than that?
Also, I seem to get better performance with 'audio' set to 'software' rather than 'hardware'...is that normal? -

Yeah, that's normal.
Running at 1680x1050 must be pretty nice, I'll have to try it on my 5320. Keep the AA off, that's not going to be possible at that high resolution.
Try running the game at a lower resolution, maybe 1280x800, then put the settings to high. Might look better.
There's an option with the view distance or something like that - if you set that down, you'll have less lag. -
you might be able to run at 1680x1050 with maybe 2x aa, but im not sure on that. also, if you take the view distance down, you will be killed before you can even see the enemy. IMO keep draw distance maxxed, and work around that. if you want an edge in the game, draw distance is it.

It adds to your lag, and remember that its a 128MB card. I'd set it around 60-75%. You wouldn't get killed before seeing the enemy. I have never had a problem with that view distance since I installed BF2 4 months ago.
1680x1050 is going to be unplayable with 2X aa on an X700 128MB. -
You know, I have a 17" widescreen, and when I run BF2, it automatically fills the screen, I didn't have to do anything special for it. Same goes with FEAR....I think the first time I started it up, it gave me some grief, but ever since, I've never had a problem with it....weird?

it depends on the monitors resolution and the resoultion set in game. if you run a non-native 800x600 on the monitor and in game then i think it will fill up the screen. if you run 1680x1050 monitor and run 800x600 i believe you will get the widescreen bars on the sides.

someone should make a sticky covering how to do this.... this question gets asked and answered at least once a month
