nah, i wouldn't bother going with XP unless you absolutely have to have it for an older app... I've gone back and forth a couple times, and with the newer drivers and SP1 for Vista, I can't tell any advantage to XP, and like mentioned above, Vista has DX10 if you want to run that mode.

So, my vote is just stick with Vista... on my machine, XP provides no advantage, and is lacking in vista features. Vista gets my vote for sure.

DX9 mode in Vista for Crysis is how I roll, runs good.

At this point, I believe the performance is almost equal..maybe a couple of % higher for XP. Not worth the trouble. Not to mention, with your machine....I would highly recommend playing it in DX10 for the eye candy.

As people already mentioned, unless you have programs that don't work under Vista, you might as well stick to Vista (and optimize it to no end).

Personally, I don't see that much advantage to Dx10, and Vista's 'new' features are basically something that a lot of people simply don't use.
Crysis can be modified to enable Dx10 graphics in Dx9 mode.

Performance wise (if you have decent/contemporary hardware), Vista doesn't really differ from XP though and is just as stable (it's 'only' problems are incompatibility with some older applications that some of us use, much higher resource use compared to XP, and not that really innovative ... but as I said, Vista can be customized to eliminate most of the annoyances and unnecessary aspects).

So if you find Dx10 to be important ... stick with Vista.

DX10 in Crysis doesn't really look much different. I'd still stick with Vista, because as everyone has said, not much performance difference.

My case with running Crysis is a bit different I guess. With that laptop in my sig, I have run it for almost 7-8 times. In Vista Ultimate 64bit SP1, I can play at 1024x768 but had to turn down shaders and shadows to low, rest I maintain the medium settings. While doing that my fps remain 20-25.

But in XP SP3, it is a bit different, I can run it on 1024x768 all medium, having the same fps(20-25). The drivers I use are 177.92 from laptopvideo2go. Other games produce similar performances for me both in XP and Vista but Crysis is a different story.
