that happened to me the first time i ran it on my desktop. But i just force quit and tried it again and it hasn't happened since. Sorry, don't know what to tell you.

What version is the latest? I posted in another thread. I'm using 162.22 and Bioshock works. Previously I was using Dell's 102.something and it did the same exact thing. Black Screen but wasn't a full crash.

That doesn't sound like a driver issue.
are you using Vista? do you have UAC on? maybe it's not running as administrator so it stops responding. -
163.44 is the latest.

I'm having the same problem on my Thinkpad T61. I've tried two different driver versions (7.15.11.129 and 7.15.11.145) but the Bioshock demo stops responding right after the opening cinematic. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Exactly the same problem that i'm having + i'm using 163.44 drivers + set to run as administrator

The fix is:
Download the newest Direct X (august) and innstall it, or force DX9. This will apply for anybody using vista and has a DX10 card. I also installed the new beta video card drives however that didnt fix it for me on its own it took that plus a DX10 update to fix it.
To force DX9 (may as well only a few things in the game have DX10 effects and you wont notice them but your fps will) just right click the icon that starts the game and add -dx9 to the target line. -
